In Explorer, I have the system set to show hidden files. I also have it set to hide empty drives. Unfortunately, the drives are still visible.

Is there a way to have Explorer not show the empty drives at all, while still seeing hidden files? Maybe some method to have them also seen as Protected items, which I do have hidden.

This is Windows 11 Pro v 22H2 build 22621.1265 exp 1000.22638.1000.0

I don't see how one can show a drive as empty when it has files on it whether hidden or not hidden. If there is even one file on it the drive isn't empty. ODDs can be hidden until a disc is inserted.

You are misunderstanding what 'hide empty drives' means. A newly formatted drive is not 'empty', it already has a directory structure and a 'System Volume Information' folder.

An an example of an 'empty drive' is a usb drive that has just been ejected. If you don't select 'Hide empty drives' in File Explorer's options its drive letter will still show in File Explorer until you unplug the usb.

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update.

unsupported machine: Legacy bios, MBR, TPM 1.2, upgraded from W10 to W11 using W10/W11 hybrid install media workaround. In-place upgrade to 22H2 using ISO and a workaround. Feature Update to 23H2 by manually installing the Enablement Package.
