Solved Power plans seem to contradict.

If I look in settings/power it shows as Balanced
If I look in Control panel/Power settings/Plan it shows as Ryzen Balanced
I assume both can't be right?

Powershell correctly identifies as me on Ryzen Balanced. I guess its a work in progress.
Only looking as PC seems to be running warmer under Win 11.

Is this a known bug?

W11, being an Insider build, will have some background and/or hidden processes to gather auto feedback to send home to MS for analysis. I doubt any such extra load would cause a noticeable consistent higher running temp. I have not noticed any such warmer running.

okay, temps could be just a change in ambient, i was more just asking about the power thing

I would bet on bug for now. Question,, have you installed anything from AMD that might have effected the power balance??

I assume its the chipset drivers as they are what gave me the power plans to begin with.

I think its more likely the settings isn't displaying the right plan as it doesn't list either of the AMD ones
it won't show at all now, right click start, power options. settings window opens to blank picture and closes again. Happens now if I choose power options in settings menu as well. I might try sfc and see if it helps.

Give the SFC a try and get back. This is interesting

sfc found nothing as usual.

might reset my powerplan in powershell tomorrow and see if setting it to windows balanced in both places lets the options window show again. I have restarted PC since it first happened.

Its 4am here so I will leave it till tomorrow. Thanks for help :)

I've got the AMD plans also on my machine, but I cannot open the power panel in Windows Settings - Settings closes out every time.

Weirdest thing, though, is that I also have MSI's Center app installed. If I enable the Extreme Performance in The User Scenario in the mini app in Center, my system automatically goes to AMD Ryzen (confirmed by both Control Panel and PS.

If I turn off Extreme Performance, my Windows power plan goes to Ultimate Performance (again, confirmed by both).

As for yours mot matching - have you installed the latest AMD drivers / AMD Ryzen Master?

If you installed the AMD Chipset software, it will take over the power plan settings.

Yes, I updated Ryzen master last week before updating to win 11. X570 drivers are latest, I looked at that before you suggested it.
If the settings acts the same for you, I have to assume its a "feature" of the drivers and win 11. I guess it will be fixed in coming months.

Well, I cannot verify in Setting / Power, as it keeps crashing on me. Won't let me enter.

But verifying between PowerShell and Control Panel always shows the correct one that I have enabled.

I may have just figured out why - I see where it says "Power Mode", but only if I pick a balanced power plan.



This will only show when I don't have a High performance / Ultimate Performance plan set.

However, according to this 10F tutorial Change Power Mode Level in Windows 10 that is only available when a Balanced Power Plan is in effect. It is basically a way to tweak your Balanced settings on the fly, without having to go through Control Panel Power Plan options and set everything manually.

It is not the name of the power plan you are actually using.

Agreed. But this feature is also in Windows 10, so it may not get changed lol.

Here's to hoping that it will ... or that they finally move the Power Settings from Control Panel fully into Windows Settings. I suspect the latter is the route they will take.

Speaking about power plans, I am on the Ultimate Power Plan, is the CPU supposed to be running at the maximum speeds at all times? I am using HWInfo64 and noticed that the Intel i8750H 2.2Ghz up to 4.1Ghz is always running at around 3.4GHz-3.5Ghz.

No. The power plan allows the machine to set parameters on various hardware, but doesn't change the clock speeds of the CPU, that will still be defined by overclocking + load.

So Ultimate running at 100 makes sense.

Yes, that was what I was thinking because it is showing Minimum at 100% and Maximum at 100% in the Ultimate Power Plan, ofcourse what speed is considered 100% since the CPU is advertised as 2.2Ghz up to 4.1Ghz with Turbo Boost. Reading this thread, it is supposed to be 3.9Ghz except I had never seen that speed even with the CPU utilitization pushing 100% with Prime95.
