I have used Privacy Eraser Pro for a number of years, but given the problem I had recently with Windows Defender Virus & Threat protection (resulting in my having to completely restore my laptop as per my other recent thread) I'm a bit nervous now about anything that messes with Windows files. So my question is how safe is it and are there any settings I should disable? I haven't installed it yet.
Never used Privacy Eraser.
I use CCleaner v5.78
No problems on Win10 or Win 11.
The copy here, is clean...
CCleaner ...as per Virustotal dot com
I block these three items in the firewall, to keep it from updating...
I only run the Custom Clean and the Registry... these are my settings...
I also add these Avast entries to the "HOSTS" file to keep CCleaner from calling home...
Code:
127.0.0.1 localhost
::1 localhost #[IPv6]
# [Start of entries generated by MVPS HOSTS]
#
# [Misc A - Z]

The very best thing about CCleaner is the control it gives you over Cookies.
Mostly... 'we don't need no steenking cookies', but we "like" some of them.
Like the cookies for sites we like to stay logged into.
CCleaner has a very simple way to control the cookies.
1. Run CCleaner's Custom Clean
2. Open your browser and go to the site you want to save the cookies from.
3. Then open CCleaner's Options > Cookies
4. Move the cookies you want to keep from the left column to the right column.
That's it ... do that for any site you want your login saved for. Like... ElevenForum, your email, Amazon maybe, etc.
CCleaner will remember those till you uninstall CCleaner or move them back to the left column.
Any cookies in the left column get removed when you run the Custom Clean.
The End
