Problem updating 2012 Asus AM3+ mobo with TPM 2.0 module

I 'm attempting to update this mobo: ASUS M5A99X Evo 2.0 AM3+ which takes a 20-1 (19 pin + a purposeful dud pin) & tried using a TPM2.0-9665 20-1 module on it, which has worked for me on the P9X79 (Intel chipset released a year prior) but this one is giving me a problem!

I have tried modules that are designed for AM4 or newer using DDR4 memory which were detected but failed to let me enable the "TPM State" as is titled in its BIOS advanced settings.

All Legacy settings are disabled leaving only UEFI enabled, all SSD's are formatted as GPT & the latest BIOS version (#2501) from the Asus website has been applied.
I did find one thread on another forum dated 18 months ago where one person found a TPM 2.0 module that worked for his AM3+ rig but he didn't supply the actual TPM information. This leads me to believe that there are others that have got this working on an AM3+ mobo.

Does anyone here on this forum know of a 20-1 pin TPM 2.0 module that will specifically work with Asus AM3+ mobos (using DDR3 memory) from that era?

I recently got a TPM module from Amazon for my X99A (Intel) platform.

Was that the TPM2.0-9665 ?
I got that working for an Asus x79 Intel mobo without any issue at all & bought the same module for this rig but it doesn't work.
The module can be enabled (supposedly) but it won't let me enable the second setting on this bios titled "TPM State" & the other options below it are grayed out because I believe the "TPM State" has to be enabled properly for them to be set/adjusted. It's too bad the bios developer didn't have it show an error message as to why it won't save as enabled.
Other BIOS settings save btw so I assume the CMOS battery is fine.

This is an AMD mobo (AM3+) so perhaps the TPM module is configured differently.

Hello @Chen Zhen and welcome to ElevenForum. :-)

First... you get ten points, just for filling out your computer specs.

Second... call ASUS and ask them which TPM module will work with your motherboard.

Third... consider getting a newer computer (or upgrading motherboard, CPU and RAM, at least).

Thanks!

Asus won't support any mobo over 3 - 4 years old but I suppose it doesn't hurt to try.
I find value in recycling old PC's for the following reasons:

- better for the environment
- save some money (or make money if selling a rebuilt rig)
- decent hardware from 2011+ still function adequately for general tasks & playing many popular games

If it's 6 or more cores, over 16 GBs of memory (ie. 32GB, 48GB, etc. - albeit a slower/lower frequency) & has adequate PCIe expansion then it's still good in my books.

Maybe something like this...

And this isn't even the latest hardware. They're already up to the 800 series motherboards.

Look at my computer (in my specs). Even that is soon to be outdated. ^^
And not to worry... Canada has plenty of environment to abuse, for 100's of years yet. :-)

:LOL::LOL:

Yes we have plenty of sq kilometrage to pollute but our little pocket of zone 5 - zone 6 that's tolerable for most of us will be full of garbage in no time at all with that mind set. :p

I should post my other rigs.. they're all a bit dated but running great without any issue. However, it depends on the tasks/games one needs hardware to run. My kids aren't playing games that require really high specs just yet... another 3 or 4 yrs & then I'll invest in 2020 rigs.

Also, you can put Windows 11 on your computer right now if you want.

And your CPU already has the SSE4.2 instruction set needed for Win 11 24H2

Thank you but I know how to install W11 & prefer the Rufus method thus far as it seems to retain all the apps, shortcuts, etc. as long as all 5 boxes are checked during the procedure. The specs I put in my profile are for my daughter's PC which is the one I'm trying to update with the TPM. I do intend to install W11 on it no matter the outcome of my hunt for a working TPM module.

The mobo didn't come with any on board TPM (I'm sure you're familiar with older Asus mobos) but I'd like it to have that part working so that's why I'm attempting to get a functional module.
Someone out there who was able to get it working on an AM3+ mobo likely knows exactly which one to purchase.

I assume you never attempted to get a TPM module working on that one or you'd have my answer!

We own 2 HP's & 2 Asus rigs at the moment but I now prefer to start with a barebone Asus & add my own hardware.
Even their smartphones are really good (since the 5 era) although I'll admit my last update is a Samsung.

Yeah I did try.
But at that time, there were way too many "fakes" on the market.
Because MS had just announced the TPM requirements.

ASUS, used to sell them under motherboard accessories.
But I think the demand wiped out their supply and they didn't foresee enough money in it, to make any more. LOL

Thanks for all your help.
As far as I can tell by searching, there is a 20-1 LPC TPM 2.0 chip for Windows 8 that says it's compatible with Asus motherboards.
Since this PC originally had Windows 8 (Vista), I'm going to take a gamble that it's the correct one for the mobo.
I've ordered it via Amazon, it comes from China & I chose free shipping so I assume this thing is coming by ship container & will arrive in about a month. After searching further, Walmart offers them even cheaper so I should have ordered through them to save a few bucks.

I'll post in this thread with what to look for if it all works out for others attempting to do the same thing.
