Publisher in Office 365

A friend has shared Office 365 with me recently. Working well until this week when Publisher - a program I use daily - has started to be very very slow. It takes 40 seconds plus to open a document and 50 seconds plus to open a blank page. Not very funny. I have done both of the office repairs, tried in safe mode, done system restore even removed OneDrive which worked for two minutes and then back to the slow mode. Word and Excel are no problem at all. Has anyone a failsafe answer please. The owner would run a mile if asked to do anything with Publisher so cannot check if his is working properly

Double check that you're using the 64-bit version of Office. Should give you the architecture under 'Office Account' > 'About Office'

Unfortunately I cannot find that info, is that because someone shared 365 with me?

It should be accessible with in any of the apps

It only gives me the version and build number and both Excel and Word are working fine

File menu > Account (to get to the above image)

Having said it was 64bit what is the next step?

I've never really used publisher, but I think it's worth having a look if there are any add-in's that may be slowing it down.



And see if there are any add-in in the highlighted area.

Not sure of exactly the Sharing of Office component applications is set-up to work but it is usual these days for component applications of suites to "phone home" occasionally to check that licencing is still valid for the main suite - unlikely but this could slow down the operation of the application if it does not have local access to the main suite

One other thing that Microsoft has a habit of doing is to add all the documents of a type allocated to one of it's applications such as publisher to use Onedrive. If you have removed onedrive this could cause slowdowns if the system is looking for it . you should be able to have onedrive running and manually remove the publisher filetype from those defaulting to use onedrive

Thank you. As you noticed I had uninstalled OneDrive but the problem started well before I did that. It really was a last ditch attempt, I thought it had worked but after half a dozen or so tries with Publisher it reverted. I wasn't sorry to lose OneDrive as the syncing was so slow and having saved a document I was unable to use it for ages due to syncing.
I also do not have any add-ins so that is not the cause.

Nope! We gotta uphold the fact that we're smarter'n yer average bear! BTW, I'm 85 today!

A little way to go to catch me Eye surgeon asked me the other day what my hobbies are and when I replied My Computer he did a double take (being female and my age I guess) and suggested I get some otc glasses whilst my cataract surgery settled down (blind in the other eye so couldn't rely on that). Still that does not sort my Publisher problem which is driving me nuts!
