Hi folks
I'm just back in the UK for a temporary gig --- I found though my favourite app where I listen to home or other international stations -- Radio Garden has since Nov 2022 been in the UK blocked from access to any "Non UK radio station". I'm not making a tirade on Brexit here -- I think my views on that disaster are well known -- and it actually for once it isn't responsable -- the reason seems to be some weird ruling from an obscure Turkish Court (hardly the most democratic courts on the planet in spite of the fact a great country, great food friendly people etc).

C'mon folks -- Do you really think blocking German News or Belgian classical music concerts from Brussels from Free radio stations (hardly "Pirate stuff) enhances your status as a Democracy -- I hope "Putinmania" is not taking hold to see who can be the most rigorous state in banning access to Foreign media.

Of course "Get roundable with VPN" -- but surely countries should be MORE international not less.

Sorry for rant but this sort of stuff really annoys me- especially as these Radio stations are all Free and nothing Piratical about them. (BTW Tunein has had a similar ban for a much longer time but for a different reason).

Cheers

jimbo

A coincidence...I was on the Google Play Store to download the Radio Garden Android app yesterday and remembered seeing the first review listed, which stated:-

"Up till recently I have had this app on my phone and tablet and for the past 3 years have found it an inspirational source of diverse music and culture from every part of the world . As of now however ,it appears that (and I don't hold the developers in any way responsible) the UK users can no longer access stations outside the UK . As there have been no recent patches or updates for the App I presume that the loss of functionality is an external problem possibly due to changes in UK data law."

VPN time for you. perhaps?

Wonder if it's a BS copyright law. Parts of Europe, has a history of flawed copyright laws. Notably Belgium years ago (solved now, TMK) and France, where you're required to censor out buildings in the background due to a fundamental flaw in copyright law, where free-panorama doesn't exist, the same problem that Belgium (That was evident at wikipedia. org, IIRC) had years ago.

Works fine again with Nordvpn -- any decent vpn will do. I like nordvpn as its fast, cheap, has loads of servers and especially when using on a computer it has "Tunnelling capability" which means you can also exclude things from vpn control such as internal (your own) LAN files, individual apps etc.Very useful function.

Cheers

Thanks -- also looks good -- cheap enough -- I don't mind having a choice of vpn's until my nordvpn subscription runs out (Feb 2024).
