Recommendation on sharing displays?

Hi all, I am hoping for a recommendation(s) for a solution to share displays between computers. I have never done this before!

My home setup is a desktop computer, with two displays connected via HDMI. I have received a laptop from work now, so when working from home I use the work laptop, for personal stuff I use the desktop.

I would like to be able to turn on the laptop, and one of the displays comes on (the laptop has 1 HDMI port). Turn on the desktop, and 2 displays come on.

I would be nice if there was some solution if both computers were on - maybe 1 display for each? Maybe switch that is easy to flip and the display(s) is active with laptop or desktop? A simple way to switch a display between the two would be fine, I am open to what's available. Using both computers at the same time would be great though.

What do you think I need? I didn't think this was a unique need. Thanks for your help and recommendations!!

Thanks @Brink . Hmm. It's a 2 in 1 out. Wouldn't it be need 2 monitors out, 2 output ports for connection to the desktop and laptop?

It depends if you wanted to share both displays or just one.

Plus, you wouldn't want both displays showing the same output.

Oh I see now. One display stays connected to the desktop, the other display works with one computer or the other based on pushing the button. Do I understand it correctly now!

Correct.

You'd have two separate connections for the desktop to display 1 and to the splitter for the shared display 2.

The laptop will be connected to the splitter for the shared display 2.

Of course, only one of them can be turned to use display 2 unless you unplug one first.

Yes. I'm not sure what would happen if you were to use two different inputs to the monitor at the same time.
