Record What You Hear for everyone?

Soo...

I have a bunch of PCs ( 2x Desktops and 2x Surface Books ) with only the oldest Desktop still using a dedicated Sound Blaster Soundcard and I just noticed it being the only one I can record sound from using the Windows Sound Recorder ( or any other App ) when creating naturally sounding but artificially generated Sound Cues for my RC Transmitter without also recording an unnecessary Video ( using the Windows Game Bar ) adding additional steps to the whole process of just getting some *.wav files...

The Sound Blaster equipped PC has the option to use a What You Hear source where normally you'd select a Microphone, but all others do not.
Is it somehow possible to enable this What You Hear source for all PCs regardless of their Hardware? If not, how does everyone else do it?

"Record What you hear" was at one time considered an aid to theft of copyright songs on CD so was removed as an option on a lot of systems. It is still available on some later systems, It is present on my ASUS desktop of around 2 years old . You may be able to find and fit a sound card that has the facility but I have not heard of the function just being turned off, so allowing a simple switch on option

Mhh... Talk about overreacting to an unlikely possibility ( I mean... who the heck pirates a CD by recording its time-consuming playback instead of just ripping it of a CD!? ) now ruining the experience for everyone else

At the time audio Ripping was in it's infancy for most systems so the "what you hear" recording was very popular

Me - right now - who's already using Audacity in its workflow...

I use Total Recorder set to record whatever comes through the speakers or headset, works pretty good. I'm not an audiophile so quite satisfactory.
