Solved Recording the audio of Teams meetings?

Hi, I have been trying to figure out how to record the audio of Teams meetings without 3rd party software? I have resorted to recording the audio into my phone from the output of my monitor speaker. It works, but it's kind of clunky, as I have to hear the audio coming from a different place other than my headphones.

This is for an HP Elitebook G10 work laptop (Windows 11). We aren't allowed to install any software (otherwise I would have already installed Audacity). I asked our IT dept and they said that only the Teams meeting organizer/initiator can record meetings But I would like to be able to record meetings for my own reference. I keep thinking that surely there must be a way to record any audio system sounds in Windows that I can hear in my headphones?

I've gone through all the sound systems settings, both in Windows and in Teams, and haven't been able to make anything work. There is a recording setting in Teams but when I use it and play it back, there is nothing recorded. Not sure if our IT has disabled this. If so, I don't see how to tell.

Generally, it's true that only the organizer can record the meeting.

You don't have to install Audacity; you can just download the .zip version and run it. Unless your IT department is watching for that too for some weird reason.

When I try to download the 64-bit zip file, it's asking me to set up a cloud storage account. I can't get past this.

Try downloading directly from their GitHub

Thanks. I think I should be able to download to my personal PC and then email the zipfile to my work email.

Why not use record the whole session e.g. using snipping tool as mp4, then extact the sound aa mp3 - many tools to do that.

You might first want to check the legality of recording a meeting. When the organizer records, there's typically a message sent to everyone alerting them that the meeting is being recorded. Also, consider asking the organizer to record the meeting and share the recording. That would surely cover you.

Thanks so much. I thought the snipping tool only did video. I didn't realize it was recently upgraded to now include audio.

I tried it out on a short meeting we had today. It worked like a charm. The sound volume was a little low, but that's just because I didn't boost up the volume slider as much as I should have I guess.

I don't need to extract the audio, I just need to listen/watch the playback a few times and then delete the file.

This is a game changer for me as now I can not only grab audio but also video, which will help with context at meetings. Who would have thought that a simple snipping tool could do so much!
