Zenbook, W11 Pro build 22621.ni_release 220506-1250
I am just curious about the recovery partition in W11.

1. Does the recovery partition restore to the W11 as it was when W11 was first installed or does it get updated every time windows gets updated by the critical updates?

2. I use multiple image backups to external HDDs. Is the recovery partition better or is it redundant since I keep image backups of the entire HDD?

In my opinion, even a latest release Windows 11 ISO is better than the original factory reset partition of a laptop.
At least after 6 months or more, plus who needs OEM bloatware?
And with your system images, you are back to a point where you were happy with your OS

How big is the recovery partition?

It is unusual to have a 10+ gb oem recovery partition nowadays.

Are you referring to the microsoft "recovery partition" which is a few hundred mb ? If so, it doesn't contain an image of the operating system. It is where winre.wim hangs out.

Windows initially places the WinRE image file (winre.wim) in the Windows partition, in the \Windows\System32\Recovery folder.
During the specialize configuration pass, the WinRE image file is copied into the recovery tools partition, so that the device can boot to the recovery tools even if there's a problem with the Windows partition.
