Solved Removing Tixati from my machine.

It all seemed so simple when I started. Some time ago I downloaded and installed a bittorrent "thing" called Tixati. It is simple to use, I used it for awhile and decided I did not want it on my computer anymore and tried to remove it. I failed miserably. I went to the uninstall feature of windows and Tixati is not on the list. If I go to the start menu and look at "all apps" it is on the list. If I right click on it I see an uninstall option. If I click on that, it takes me to the standard uninstall window and it's not there. I've tried Revo Uninstaller and it cannot see Tixati either. If I go to the progam files on drive C, I do see Tixati folder. Opening the folder I see the usual stuff you see inside such a folder including a "uninstall.exe" which when clicked I see the standard "Are you sure you want to do this" warning. I click YES and nothing happens. I go to the Task manager I see no activity with anything Tixati or an uninstaller. As Han Solo would say, "I have a bad feeling about this."
Anyone have any ideas on how to remove this "thing" from my PC?

1) I have AdwCleaner on my machine and use it daily. I followed your instructions and found nothing that Acer did not put on my machine:
1674411065147.png

Next I installed Malwarebytes antimalware 2023, ran it and had "no detections". I could not find the data file you mentioned. Tixati is still on my machine. I'm not sure this is "malware" as such, it has the flavor of a regular app, just one that is hidden and can't be accessed by normal methods. Why on earth anyone would want to do that seems bothersome, if not downright malicious.

I tried to follow this method. Alas, it was for Windows 10 and an older version of Tixati than I have. Following the method outlined does not present the same alternative choice for the best action to follow. Bummer.

IT'S GONE!!!! Revo Uninstaller has a "hunter" mode. I figured out how to use it, launched Tixati, put the hunter mode cross-hairs on the opened program and Pooof, it was gone. I did the usual in depth cleaning of all Tixati stuff on the machine and it really is gone. For the tricky stuff, hunter mode with the Revo Uninstaller is great!!

Thanks for all those offered help!

Years ago, a personal Guru, told me that having a torrent on my PC would be like having an open bottle of arsenic sitting on my kitchen counter. "Just asking for Trouble".
Thankfully, I've always been able to acquire any program I want without having to use a Torrent.
Cheers Mate, stay safe now, Y'hear?

Thanks for telling us about that.

I would have probably just used the old "Seek and destroy" method. That's where I seek out the program on the HD, and Delete it.
Then I'd go into the Registry and delete any reference to that program. That would probably take a few minutes, but it's only a mater of a whole lot of Mouse Clicks. :lmao:
Thanks again!

What the actual F! Besides you... nobody mentioned anything about illegal torrents (not in the slightest - be it directly or indirectly). That's like someone asking about the best way to sharpen a knife (still dull - can't even cant bread properly) and you reacting with: "Owning a knife is not illegal, but slitting throats or stabbing people is. " 🥴

Here's the official site: Tixati.com - Download

It IS a legit APP (no spyware, no adware, no ransomware, there's nothing illegal whatsoever about it). I use Virus Total for scanning small apps: VirusTotal - and it gives 0 results. Also, there's no such thing as a malware removal "person". That's just a basic/standard requirement - in every IT service. Easiest issue to solve (been dabbling with stuff like that since Windows '98 - back when malware, spyware and viruses were actually brutal - not like today - when even newbies can clean a system - win one of the many available automated tools). Did that for more than a decade - and honestly, such response would be deemed as biased and unprofessional. Some torrenting tools are actually a source/cause of malware - while tixati is one of the clean ones - thus, some experts/professionals from the field would actually recommend it for torrenting. Same can be said about illegal torrent sites - yet another source of infections - but that has NOTHING to do with torrenting. If you ever get the chance of dabbling with Linux distributions - and almost every official site you'll find a torrent download (not to mention - many of those come with a torrenting app preinstalled). Same goes far Open Source apps which happen to be bigger than the average app in size - like Gimp, LibreOffice and so on and so forth. Probably less relevant this days (for anyone who's privileged with a high speed internet connection) - tho, still an option.

The irony.... AdwCleaner - from the link you gave.:2023-01-22_230252.png

"Trojan.CobaltStrike is a paid penetration testing product that allows an attacker to deploy an agent named 'Beacon' on the victim machine. Many cybercriminals that operate malware use the Cobalt Strike tool to drop multiple payloads after compromising a network."

...🤭

Taking into account - the scanner in question - i'd say it's a false positive. Tho, more often than not - most of the infected system i had to deal with - were actually infected though fake anti-malware/spyware/virus apps. Most common apps for cyber-scams as well. That being said - i would recommend using the official sites for downloading a given anti-x tool. 3rd party sites are easier to infect (not the site itself - but a specific app which happens to be downloaded often enough).

I've use Revo Uninstaller for years as well. It would not find Tixati in the usual manner. I went to the Revo web page and started to explore and found a short video clip on youtube about hunter and watched. That video suggested taking the (barely visible) cross-hairs and move them to the target app. It was suggested that any icon, or a link on the task bar was suitable, but nothing initially worked for me. I then thought if I just launched the Tixati app and put the cross-hairs directly on it, it might work. It did.
Enjoy hunting!

Use a Good VPN, good security, run files/Apps in a sandbox and use common sense and Nothing bad happens from torrents. Been downloading and using them for what..hmm..15 years now and have only ever had one bad issue. But that was before I did the first 15 words I said here..lol.

I have an old machine I am retiring that had Tixati installed on it. I figured I would see just how Tixati uninstalls.

Tixati was listed in Control Panel > Programs & Features
Uninstalling Tixati in Programs & Features went exactly as expected. Same as any other program uninstall.
It was a very clean uninstall. It removed the folder from File Explorer, removed the desktop icon, Start Menu App listing, and all but one file in AppData. The registry only had a few leftover entries. Better than many other program, uninstalls I've done.

So I don't know what happened to your install or why you had problems uninstalling.
I installed Tixati myself in the usual way. There were no problems.

Fascinating, I have no idea what is going on. My first thought is that the publisher of Tixati didn't want it easily removed. Then I wondered if it was a Windows issue.. When Revo Uninstaller could not see it I was convinced. Yes, I did restart my pc as one of the attempts. Now I'm wondering it might be a related to the fact that I'm on an Acer all-in-one. The only other option is the Great Geek in the Sky is messing with me.
Thanks for the update.

It sounds a lot like what happens when the system loses track of the installation. This can happen if the program's folder gets moved, or drive letters change, by user intervention rather than using system tools.
