Revo Uninstaller ques

Just installed Revo and used it to uninstall a program. I did a scan to find left over registry items and a few were found. The files were shown at the bottom of a folder hierarchy starting with 'My Computer' down to 'MuiCache' which is the folder they are located in.

So my question is what should I delete? Should I just select and delete the specific program files (in this case Honeyview.exe files) only or should I delete the MuiCache folder as well? There is an option to 'Select All' and this selects all folders starting with 'My Computer' all the way down to the files themselves, obviously I shouldn't delete everything.

I'd include a screen shot but for some reason I can't do a screen shot with Revo, strange.

Once I've started the process, I get this window:

I tick Automatically delete all found leftovers and click Continue, and then when it runs, it offers to Search all User folders for leftover files and folders, and I agree.

I've never, never had a bad result from a Revo uninstall.

This way of doing it just avoids the Registry page with all the trees, and I agree with you: That's a bit worrying and puzzling, and I didn't know what to delete from the reg the first time I used Revo, but this method takes care of it and removes just what needs removing.

EVERYTHING that Revo presents as removable!! Once you start getting choosey, it's pointless using Revo. I don't even bother to look/read the offerings, the settings for my revo is set to tick EVERYTHING and I just OK it

NEVER failed yet !!

However, I do maintain a regular regime of imaging the system ... tin-foil hat territory.

Hello @Genoess and welcome to ElevenForum.

Delete whatever "scan for leftovers" finds.
In over 15 years of my using it, REVO has never made a mistake. ^^

Sometimes... after you delete all the leftovers... it finds other things as well. Delete them too.

As you can see, @idgat and @Ghot and I are in complete agreement about this. This is an uninstaller program that works perfectly and completely, if you let it do its thing. Just tick what I said, and as Ghot said, when it offers to clean up other things, let it.
As always, an image before using Revo is just basic good practice, but I've never heard of anyone needing to undo anything Revo has done.

Yeah, Deanna M. reviewed that in the AskWoody newsletter this morning. Looks a lot like the old (excellent) InCtrl utility from Neil Rubenking at PC Magazine (remember paper magazines?). Trying it out soon, if I find a program I actually need to INSTALL..

I rather take this approach when installing new software to test it and if unhappy, I revert to backup image and all traces are gone.

Of course, that approach does not cater for uninstalling something installed ages ago, but (for me) that is quite rare. I have an app similar to Revo that I probably use once in 6 months or so.

In the end, even if some detritus is left behind, its impact on performance is usually negligible.

However, crap can accumulate so using tools like wiztree now and then to clear out stuff is handy.

I never use registry cleaners - I have had more issues than they are worth.

Hey @Wisewiz , I have been going to Woody's site since XP and have two of his books.
And yes, I saw that Deanna had reviewed it although, you'd still need an uninstaller anyway
but, if you want to compare the files that were installed to the files that an uninstaller wants
to delete then, it will still be a useful tool. I think that the paid version of REVO will monitor the
installation of an app or program and you can then, just recall the installation log and tell REVO
to uninstall that app or program without any other action on your part.
Total Uninstall will also do the same but again, it is a paid uninstaller. You can use it for a 30 day
trial and then uninstall or pay for the program. It has also been around since Windows 7 I believe.

Yes. Only delete the files that are highlighted. As @Wisewiz stated, the next time you use Revo you can select the option to have Revo automatically delete the leftovers.

I felt the same way the first time I used Revo. After I gave it a little thought it came to me that there must be a reason only certain files were highlighted.

The problem comes in if the user isn't careful and deletes things that are not highlighted. If the user selects to let Revo delete the leftovers the chance of deleting a wrong file is reduced to 0%.
