Windows 11
Ever since I upgraded to W11, I have been having issues (right out of the box). One of which is I would double-click on Chrome browser and nothing happens. Other times I can't shutdown without doing a forced shutdown. I often can't even access the CMD prompt when this happens.

I got notification from Windows Update that an update was ready to upgrade. Unfortunately, during the process it hung and it wasn't completed. After repeated attempts, I did an upgrade from the OEM Windows10 image and ISO file. My laptop specs are located here.

Interestingly, at Lenovo's website there are no W11 drivers only W10. The same with the Lenovo external monitor I'm using.

I'm wondering if I should just give up on W11 and revert to W10?

I would do a clean install of Windows 11.

I did that, so I reverted back to the "tested" OEM W10 image and upgraded from there. There was less hassle involved, especially some drivers/laptop performance utilities aren't available on Lenovo's website. That was terribly frustrating.

Interestingly, at Lenovo's website there are no W11 drivers only W10. The same with the Lenovo external monitor I'm using.
It would be the same drivers for Windows 11 as for Windows 10.

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

Yes, truly compatible and on Lenovo's 'supported' list.....

Thanks.

Any guesses on what might be going on?

Should I just go ahead and do a fresh clean install of W11 and ignore the Lenovo Vantage application, which will not allow me to control and conserve the battery laptop battery? Or maybe I'm stuck with W10?

Additionally, this weirdness appeared after reinstalling Windows 11:

Description: A timeout was reached (30000 milliseconds) while waiting for the System Interface Foundation Service service to connect.

And the following errors even though I don't have Office installed (see attached log from MinitoolBox)

Have you checked and verified that you are running the latest UEFI fw update for your machine from Levnovo's website?
Yes, everything is current.

As you already have said you have "OEM W10 image" so doing a clean fresh install of Windows 11 maybe the best place to start and rid you of all the bloat from when you originally installed the OEM image..
The error message you have for "Office" is probably left over bloat from the trail version of Office that came with your system.
As others have said, your system is supported and drivers etc are available from the Lenovo's website, so everything that is required for a fresh CLEAN install is available if you wish to go down that path.

Thanks for the reassurance!

If there's anything else you can add given the fact I have installed minimal applications and the more "serious" issues occur after a few days to a couple of months before I have to either reset or reinstall Windows. I'd appreciate it.

I have created other threads regarding my issues I have experiencing here and on the W11 forum, like I can't shutdown except by holding down the power button. I can't always access the CMD prompt to run commands to a shutdown. Random corruption occurs too like fonts corrupted.

Often, a program Manager message appears during shutdown which I believe has to do with crappy Lenovo Vantage software.

And the worst of the bunch (since I'm extremely sensitive) is a brief flickering of the screen (when connected to an external monitor) especially when watching media. This becomes gradually worse over several weeks despite doing everything possible to eliminate hardware components such as HDMI cables, external monitor defects, I know there's a Windows update fix that addresses some flickering issues but that hasn't helped me.

And it seems that ALL my issues became worse AFTER I performed a BIOS update. Even the update didn't take at first and then it did on my second attempt. Argh.

You have more patience than me (judging from all your previous posts about issues), I would of wiped everything and started afresh long ago.

What I would do for what it is worth:-

Ensue you have a backup image
Do a fresh clean install of Windows 11 using the guide found here Clean Install Windows 11 Tutorial
Check for updates for Windows 11 and drivers etc after install.
Watch how the system performs, then slowly add applications etc testing system operation after each install
Backup regularly
Then and only then (if issues still exist) will you find what is causing it.

Ha. I did that sooooo many times that no my NVMe drive is at 98%. The issues keep coming back and made worse after updating to W11 and updating the BIOS.

I need the Lenovo Vantage software because if I don't have it, I lose the "conserve battery"feature where it will charge to 100%. The battery is not removable unless I open up the entire laptop. The Vantage software is buggy and sometimes I can uninstall it and the settings remain (conserve mode) other times they don't take.

Even though my laptop is under warranty, I've sent it back to Lenovo and they returned it with NFF (no fault found). So, unless I can verify a hardware issue I'm left to assume it's software and I have to keep at it until I find a solution. And so far, there is no 100% solution but the [best] solution seems to be is use the OEM image and return back to W10.

My apologies then.
From what I have read, I could not see anywhere where you said you have done a CLEAN install.
All I have seen is "OEM W10 image and upgraded from there"
If you have already done what I listed, I am out of a good starting point for you.
All the best, hopefully someelse may have a way forward for you.

No worries about that. The W11 Gremlins have attacked again. I lost all my Restore Points despite the option being enabled. What's also frustrating is Microsoft has hidden the Restore feature.

I tried to run Windows Troubleshooter moments ago for the app store (as a test) and I got an error message about that as well. I noticed something was off when CCleaner couldn't update.

If I have to revert to the beginning, I think I might just stay with W10. However, I will give W11 with a clean install one more try because I have data on my D drive and if I use Lenovo's OEM image to restore, it will wipe out D drive as well.

Of course I have a backup of D, but it takes time. The plus side as I see it with a clean install of W11 is it will keep my D drive intact. However, I have zero confidence this will work. Maybe my CPU or RAM is corrupting things. I probably should run some Lenovo hardware diagnostics (again).

Ok, I'm about ready to give up with W11 and revert to W10. This time though, I have some new tools like FRST and MiniToolBox to see what is going on. Hopefully there is someone here who can figure out what's going on. If not, this thread will stay for record/archival purposes, so in the off chance Lenovo or anyone else can review this anomaly. If this thread doesn't get enough traction, maybe @Brink can move it to a more suitable thread?

I have already done three e W11 CLEAN installs via Windows Media Creation tool and the latest Microsoft W11 build today. I followed the instructions in this forum (tutorials section).

Attached are my logs after I had to do a forced shutdown. Most applications and functions froze when I went to shut down for the night. The MTB Log is at the button. What was unusual to me was there were several instances of consent. exe hanging which could not be "killed" by Process Hacker. There were two new error entries for DCOM {A463FCB9-6B1C-4E0D-A80B-A2CA7999E25D} and {A463FCB9-6B1C-4E0D-A80B-A2CA7999E25D}.

As you can see from the log, there are minimal applications installed, but some were Uninstalled like One Drive and other "apps" such as Spotify, Tik Tok. I'm also attaching a text file from CCleaner that shows all my apps.

Additionally, these were the options/drives given to me upon installing a fresh clean Windows11

Installed Windows 11 on a Celeron processor n3350

All I know and this thread got 6K views is that I successfully installed windows 11 on the above and on a Lenovo T450 laptop as well.

The Celeron I gave away but the Lenovo works well ,updates and is my backup when this all dancing new Dell AIO nightmare has a hissy fit day which it does quite often !!

Paul.

I believe most of your issues are due to drivers or access rights. I would download and install all the drivers for Windows 10 64-bit from Lenovo's site starting with the chipset. I would also check for any drivers for Windows 7 64-bit not available for Windows 10. The same goes for utilities. Make sure you run any driver or utility installation with right-click Run as Administrator to avoid any issue due to access rights. If you can find a newer driver from chip manufacturer (such as Intel), download and upgrade to that.

I've gone over everything you posted in this thread.
You stated:
"Ever since I upgraded to W11, I have been having issues"
"I did an upgrade from the OEM Windows10 image and ISO file"
"so I reverted back to the "tested" OEM W10 image and upgraded from there."
"Additionally, this weirdness appeared after reinstalling Windows 11:"
"have created other threads regarding my issues I have experiencing here and on the W11 forum, like I can't shutdown except by holding down the power button. I can't always access the CMD prompt to run commands to a shutdown. Random corruption occurs too like fonts corrupted."

"I have already done three W11 CLEAN installs via Windows Media Creation tool"
"Additionally, these were the options/drives given to me upon installing a fresh clean Windows11"
Yet, you highlighted only the C: drive in your statement.
At this point this is the first time you mention clean install. Please clarify something for me here so I make sure I understand.. Did you download the iso, put it on a flash drive, and boot from it? Did you remove ALL partitions from the target drive (drive 1) making the entire drive as unallocated space for the install or did you only remove the windows partition (drive 1 partition 3)? A screenshot of disk management would be helpful here. If you did indeed remove all partitions on the drive three times exactly this way, you should have installed all windows updates and only the drivers provided by windows update and then monitored the system for a while before adding any software or additional drivers. If everything worked as it should, software and drivers should have been added one at a time, testing Windows functions in between.

In my opinion, assuming that Windows 10 worked correctly and assuming a clean install was done correctly, your problem is some driver or piece of software.
