Screen goes black unexpectedly some times when using Facebook or Instagram.

Hi, I’ve had a problem for a few months now with my my main laptop. When I’m logged in Facebook or Instagram the screen blacks out at times (not in the sense of powering down, the screen goes black for no apparent reason), by scrolling up or down I usually get an image back.

It happens unexpectedly, and sometimes watching a you tube the image starts to ‘run’ in and out of the frame. I’ve also noticed that rebooting the computer fixes this annoyng behavior, although it does not happen systematically.

I wonder whether anyone has an explanation and a a permanent solution for this. My laptop is about 2 years old and a fairly powerful one. Thanks in advance.

I was ok yesterday with the SFC /scannow... this was a surprise for me! maybe some of the other user's have some ideas

I thought about it, I ran that test several times in the past and it was always okay, that is no integrity violations. I think the most important fact about this strange behaviorn is that it happens with Facebook and Instagram. I'm posting now about it because at first I thought it might be a glitch with those social networks, but as it is persistent after several months (and it does not happen all the time) maybe someone here has an explaination for it. A search on the internet suggests it could be a jittery connection to the web, but I doubt it as I use Photoshop beta and it has never complained about a bad signal. Other suggestions might be about the DNS which I have to try to change it and see what happens. But why Facebook and Instagram only?

Thanks. I have changed the DNS for the time being and see what happens. Unfortunately it's not something that I can check if it is there or not as it occurs sporadically. I will disactivate the hardware acceleration as my next action if the behavior persists.

The DNS was not the cause, as it happened on Facebook. I have disabled hardware acceleration, and so far so good, fingers crossed....

@glasskuter, disabling hardware acceleration seems to be the cause for the dark screens. I can’t rule out that it won’t happen again, but it hasn’t happened so far. Thank you so much for your valuable insight!
