Is it possible to make screenshots auto save to a different folder?

Or Is my only option to Move the Default Location of Screenshots Folder from C to D drive?

I have set up a New Library with the Set save location D as follows:
  • screenshots folder in C:\%UserProfile%\Pictures.
  • a new folder in D:\xx
When I manually save a screenshot, it saves to the folder in D:\xx. However, if I do an autosave it saves to the folder in C:\%UserProfile%\Pictures.

What I want to achieve is to not have my screenshots saving in the C drive, which I only use for MS OS.

However, if I do an autosave it saves to the folder in C:\%UserProfile%\Pictures.
It shouldn’t, it’s the whole point of being able to move the default folder in option one that glasskuter posted. Something is amiss. Folder on D: hasn’t got any specific security settings applied to it that may prevent the auto save?

I have set up a New Library

What do you mean by a new library?
Have you moved user folders like in the following? If you only want your OS on C, moving all the user folders would be the path I’d take.

    …still on a horse.
I have a feeling it's related to onedrive in some way. If you use a Microsoft account in Windows 11 Home, the default user folder location for Desktop, documents, pictures, and videos is automatically set to Onedrive, not on your system drive. I suspect you attempted to move these folders without unlinking the account and the PC from onedrive first.

I never realized there were options!!! Why should there be?

When I do a Screen save, using the "PS" key on the keyboard, the Screenshot goes into the Windows Clip Board, where I can then Paste it into my Photo Viewer/Editor program, "Photo Filtre" (yes, it's French).

In Photo Filtre, I can resize, crop and add text or contrast, and prepare it for saving. I've set the default SAVE location, in Photo Filtre, to the Desktop.
Once a photo is on my desktop, I can re-route it to any location I choose, even a different drive, if I want.
Doing a "Save As" allows me to choose any folder, anywhere on my PC that I want.
Even under "My Pictures" (which is NOT on my C: drive) I've set up many sub-folders where I can save my photos, in specific categories.
(for safety, I keep NO data files on my C: drive, but on a backup drive on my desktop PC.) And from there, I back up all my data files to multiple USB drives, every week.

When you set a PLAN, and then work that plan, life is so much simpler!

Cheers Mate!

Hello good people, thank you for helping resolve my issue.

After a bit of trouble shooting by using the Snipping Tool record instead of picture, I found out why my Screenshots were not saving to Library “Set save location” on D instead of C drive.

I had incorrectly added the Screenshots folder (%UserProfile%\Pictures\Screenshots), instead of adding the Pictures folder (%UserProfile%\Pictures).

It seems while you can select the Screenshots folder (and only the Screenshots folder) as noted in the tutorial by Moving the Default Location of a user folder. However, when using a Library you need to do the Pictures folder (that includes the Screenshots folder).

Note:
And sorry, my initial process comments were not clear by stating Pictures instead of Screenshots folder.

Antspants
As in the tutorial if I move the Default Location of Screenshots Folder, it all works, no problem at all. But what I was hoping to achieve is to leave all the default folders on C drive, and use the ability of the Libraries save location instead to D drive folders etc.

By Library I mean as per this Win11Forum tutorial.

Actually maybe this is a separate question, but as you mentioned the path you'd take is to move all the user folders.
Currently I use the web version of OneDrive where I upload files occasionally for accessing on my phone. However, I was thinking it might be easier to manage if I have Onedrive installed on my PC.

If I move the default location of user files from C to D as in the tutorial, and I install Onedrive on my PC. Will Onedrive then want to backup these moved folders on D drive?

Glasskuter
Good point, but I don’t have OneDrive installed.

The options I’m seeking is where the screenshots are automatically saved only for the Snipping Tool, the settings state the only option is to Pictures > Screenshots folder.

When I press the “PS” (Win + Shift + S) key I too get the same results, where the screenshot is copied to clipboard and saved, being in Pictures > Screenshots folder.

Most of the time I press the “Pause” an unused key that I’ve remapped to Left Win + Print (bypassing the Snipping Tool dialog box) for a full screen screenshot and auto save.

And this is all I want, take a full screen screenshot and have it saved to a folder of my choice, without any other keyboard / mouse or saving needs. Totally agree with the additional comments.
