Search not working - tried various things

Hi,

Title says it all really.

Search function not working.



I click in the search box, I briefly get the search window, which closes after a couple of seconds. I can't actually type anything into the search box.

This is what I get:



I've run Administrator-level sfc /scannow also dsim /Online /Cleanup-Image /Restorehealth

I found (in another thread on elevenforums) a "hack" which worked for some folks - namely creating another Admin-level user account (in which search works) which seems to reset my usual (Admin) account. This seemed to work the first time I tried it, but hasn't worked since.

This and a few other "bugs" - namely M$oft reorganising my Start Menu (the subject of another thread of mine on this forum) and tiny fonts (which I can't seem to make any larger - no matter what I do - e.g. using 'Settings' or Winaero Tweaker) all seemed to appear after a Windows Update (in installation date order), one of KB5041585, KB5042099, KB5041587 or KB5043076.

Any ideas folks?

Things to try.
If you are using any 3rd party app that alters the GUI, either uninstall or update it.
Try these suggestions. Fix problems in Windows Search - Windows Client
Create another local user account with administrative privileges to test with. Restart and log into that new account. See if search works correctly in that account. If it does, there is corruption in your user account.

Windows 11 Start Menu search bar not working issue may emerge anytime! But there are several fixes to try to eliminate this issue from scratch. This guide illustrates the fixes for this error.

I tried the "create a new admin account" which worked once (and also sorted out the original acount) but now both the original account and new account search don't work - the search window (if it opens that is) shuts down in around 2 seconds and you can't type anyting into search.

I'll try glasskuter's suggestion and that suggested by Freebooter's YouTube link.

Will report back in due course. Thanks for the suggestions, much appreciated.

I gave up using search for my mathematical questions. No matter what search engine I used they kept telling that naught + naught = naught.

Just type in "answer to the ultimate question" into Google and you'll see that the answer is 42.

It is what you get when you multiply 6 by 9.
