hello
I hope someone can help I am an enthusiatic amateur, I have today reinstalled windows 11 for a back up after a problem with Windows security not updating. I had recently remove Kaspersky internet security, I think that may have been the inital cause of the problem .other windows updates download and install without any problem.
However when I look at the update history Updates.png The windows defender hasn't updated since December 2021.
I have tried everything I can find , running troubleshooter for windows updates found and fixed problem(?)
Still won't download lots of free space on laptop 232 GB free of 364GB
Run SFC \Scannow folowed by DISM/Cleanup Image/ and then DISM /Cleanup Image/ RestoreHealth Hwlped by your site , Thank you
I still can't make it install.
Can anyone suggest anything else apart from restoring Windows from Restore Image please.?
I have backup all files so will do that as a last resort, although I have tried 'Clean Install windows form USB drive 'using your tutorial.
I can follow instructions but they need to be very explicit
Sorry and thank you

Kapersky is one of the antivirus programs that won't cleanly uninstall completely.

To completely remove Kapersky you should use the kavremover tool. Instructions are here How to remove a Kaspersky application
The removal tool can be downloaded by scrolling all the way to the bottom of that article.

Kaspersky Removal Tool

Step 1

Open a Web browser, and navigate to the download page for the Kaspersky Removal Tool using the Resource link at the end of this article. Click the link titled "kavremover.exe." Select the desktop when your browser prompts you to specify a download location.

Step 2

Double-click the file "kavremover.exe" on the desktop. When the program opens, you will see a string of eight letters and numerals at the top of the window.

Step 3

Copy the string exactly as it is displayed in the text box below.

Step 4

Click the drop-down menu at the bottom of the window and then click the name of the Kaspersky product that you want to completely remove from the computer.

Step 5

Click the "Remove" button.

Thank you so much to you both. I tried the first solution
First reset Windows Update components i that does not work reset TCP/IP protocol with attached batch script
this didn't appear to work. However by then the second comment had arrived

I had already runinstalled the Kaspersky program so I reinstalled it then used teh Kavremover . di exactly what it ( you ) told me to do . restarted pc , tried the ' reset Windows Update tool again ( thank you). tried again to update Windows Defender and Bingo it worked!

I've been trying to sort this problem for week now. It has taught me a lot. Not least to ask the correct questions in the right places!
I can't thank you enough for giving me your time.
I was first alerted to the idea it wsa caused bY Kaspersky as I ran Belarc Advisor and it kept finding Kaspersky monitoring my system. Hope that small nugget helps someone else sometime. I hope this repsonse is acceptable I haven't read all the rules for posting yet.
Thank you both
