Mine download automatically but in windows update show an 'install' button and if I click on 'install' they will install. (takes about a second for it to happen) I think what's happening is if I do nothing, they automatically install on their own at some point later in the day, probably outside active hours.

I'll have to wait it out and see if it will eventually install on its own.
Thanks for replying.

Keep in mind they all have the same KB#, just the version changes. Wait it out a couple of days, then go to windows update>update history>definition updates. You will see many with KB2267602, one each day with a different version #.

No luck. This morning I was greeted with a notice that I need to update my computer.
I clicked on the notification, and it opened the Windows update page with a Security intelligence update to download and install.

No other updates have arrived since the windows update on the 2nd Tuesday of this month.
Only Security intelligence updates.

I use Microsoft Windows Security (Defender). When I start my day, the first thing I do is a System Windows Update. I do frequent Windows Update checks throughout the day as I'm working. I would probably never know if updates weren't automatic.

My preference would be for Security intelligence updates to be automatically downloaded and installed immediately. My assumption is that Microsoft is sending out updates based on the latest virus and computer intrusion data available. We are all getting two or more updates a day. Assuming the update has been tested, why not install them immediately. We can always uninstall the latest update if it creates an unforseen problem.

Try repairing Windows Security using Option #2 or #3 in
Try using powershell or GPO to set intelligence updates to your liking, e.g. every 2, 4, 6 hrs., etc.. See if either of these fix your situation.
Code:
  Set-MpPreference -SignatureScheduleTime [2,4,6, etc.]

Tried the Powershell as an administrator. Didn't work.

Tried Set-MpPreference -SignatureScheduleTime 2
Tried Set-MpPreference -SignatureScheduleTime -2

Not accepted with an error 0x%1!x!

From another web site suggesting parameters, I think the correct format is Set-MpPreference -SignatureScheduleTime 2:00:00 which establishes the time if day. That didn't work either.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I did run Windows Security repair. No change.

Windows Security does appear to be working correctly. I just doesn't automatically update.

Then you probably need to perform a repair install or revert to a backup.

I suspect Windows 11 23H2 does not allow Windows Security to automatically update, and provides no option to allow it to do so.

I gave you the wrong code in post #10 above. Try this, and use 1-24 hrs. for the interval:
Code:
Set-MpPreference -SignatureUpdateInterval <UInt32>

This is now working as hoped. Thank you oldschool for your recommendation. Interesting I had to install PowerShell 7 on a new Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio 2 computer with a new Windows 11 Home install fully updated for it to work. You would think that PowerShell was also up-to-date.

Thanks for the help!!

I also suspect the security system was updating, but not as often as I wanted. Every time I checked, it installed an update, leading me to believe it was not working.
