Sendto function in Windows Explorer (or any other application, like Total Commander) has been broken for more than a year now, and I searched for the internet for solution but could not find one.
The issue is that I can't send files by mail via Thunderbird from Explorer (or Total Commander) because the right click "send to a mail recipient" does not work.
See the attached image 1.
As you can see there is the Mail recipient.MAPImail file in the right location which is the only thing needed for this to work - in theory.
Also, mapimail is associated with Thunderbird. See image 2.
Still, I see only an empty box which does nothing. I deleted every other option from the Sendto folder just to show that something comes up but not the right thing.
I already tried everything that was suggested on other forums but they did not work for me.
Perhaps there is a solution I don't know of so I give it a try also here.

You could try to add a shortcut to Thunderbird to the sendto menu.
How to do that is described here:

I just tried that for my email program (eM-Client) and it does indeed function!
As I don't use Thunderbird anymore I cannot test that, but it should function as well.

You could remove the non-functional shortcut for Mail.recipient out of that sendto folder.
Edit: just tested that last option:
You could hide shortcuts as well, so that they still exist in that sendto folder but are not shown in the context menu for sendto.

I already tried this one. The problem with it is that it only attaches one single file no matter if multiple files are selected. At least in the case of Thunderbird.

That indeed is a problem. It does that in eM-Client as well.
It even is so, that selecting multiple files and sending it to eM-Client by the context menu, does open eM-Client, but does not open a new mail, like it does for a single file.

In that case I would not know a solution, other than opening a new mail in the mail client and dragging all desired files into the new mail. Which as far as I remember should function as well in Thunderbird.

Have used Thunderbird for many years, but since I found eM-client to be more convenient, I did not use Thunderbird anymore.

The Sent to mail works only with Microsoft Outlook and maybe with Windows Mail app. This is a known "bug" to force us use Microsoft applications.

That may be the case. I haven't read about this elsewhere. I will try to install Outlook and see whether it changes anything.

The claim that send to will only work with Outlook, is just false and unsubstantiated. I'd of loved to have seen some proof to backup the claim.

Send to > mail recipient needs a classic desktop email client with MAPI support. It will not work with Mail & Calendar.

Also, I just checked with my copy of Thunderbird and it works just fine.

Make sure Thunderbird is your default email client in Thunderbird> Settings> General. Then sign out or reboot.

If you click on the Attach icon in most email clients you can select multiple files by holding the CTRL and clicking on them. If you want to select all the files in sequence, you can hold SHIFT, click on the first file and then on the last to select them all. This works both in order by name and in order by date or other view.

Maybe it would function for me as well, using eM-Client.
But because I did not make eM-Client the default mailclient in Windows, using that Mail recipient context option only brings a message telling I should bind a mailclient to the default.

Reason for not using a default mailclient is that now and then I have to use GMail (via my browser) in stead of eM-Client for sending mails, so I always want to have choice out of the available clients if I click an email link.

But I am very much satisfied with the option to drag files from an opened folder into the mailclient, either eM-Client or GMail, and will not try to change the default just to test it for the OP.

So that ends my contribution to this 'problem'... ;-)

So that ends my contribution to this 'problem'... ;-)
Of course, drag&drop also works on Thunderbird compose window, that's not the issue.

The Sent to email option needs a specific email clint. It won't give you a choice. I think most Sent to options need a specific application to work.

In some way it's my feeling that you better use some more friendly words to people trying to help you!
It is zero help when you describe a problem and someone responds that they do not have it.

I have Mozilla Thunderbird as default mail client.

Even then you might try to respond somewhat more friendly in stead of snarling (I hope I'm using the right word, have looked it up in a dictionary).

That's just my opinion.
