Solved Shortcut key has a 3 second delay opening an app

Is there a fix for this. Stopping Sysmain service did not do anything (suggested from Google AI search)

Ive been using F10 for one app for decades so it would be nice if it launched instantly as it does in Win-7

Windows 11 changed how global hotkeys are handled. Unlike Windows 7, the OS now routes many key events through additional layers (accessibility, shell hooks, background services). This can introduce a noticeable delay—often around 2–3 seconds—before launching an app.

Try creating a hotey the old way. This bypasses some of the newer Windows 11 handling layers

1. Right‑click the app → Create shortcut (or create a shortcut manually).
2. Right‑click the shortcut → Properties.
3. In the Shortcut key field, assign your key (e.g., F10).
4. Click OK.

Pretty sure that's how I did it the first time so I deleted it and created a new one on my desktop, added the F10 and pinned it to the start menu and then deleted the one on the desktop and that fixed it. Back when I first created it it was quick and acquired the delay after some updates.

In the process I learned not all Start Menu shortcuts are located in the same place. Some are in
C:\Users\John\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs (the one I'm working on)
and some are in
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

P.P.S. The exact same setup on my other Windows 11 PC and that hotkey has no delay but I'm happy it's a quick fix if it happens again. It's the only program I have that uses a hotkey
