I've just found a text message on my mobile,saying someone else may have recovered my act! BUT, it's a very old email,I think it's a virgin.net one,which I've not used in over 15 years,so should I worry about it? my main act uses a outlook email,and it also does not have the old virgin.net email attached to it.

For one the text could be
  • fake / social engineering
  • Someone knew at least your email and initiated a password reset, but could not complete without access to your sms

Other thoughts. If the email isn't associated to anything of importance then it's probably not an issue; however, if you don't use that email anymore it may be prudent to sign into it and close the account out to be sure.

it seemed to have come from Microsoft as it's the same number or source that sent me a text a while back to mention I had setup a passkey,which I did
all it says is, someone else might have accessed email address, recover at aka.ms/alcs just checked by trying to sign in via virgin,and the email is no longer valid any way,I'm sure I closed it years back, but either way it does not exist now.

Send an email to the closed account and see if it comes back undeliverable and maybe use a temporary email account if you have one just in case it does not bounce

    The only thing it lack is USB-3.2 on the front face but it has 3.0 on the back
