Simplest Windows 11 Installation Procedure

Currently running Windows 10 Pro and looking to delve into 11 but dont wanna mess with all the registry editing or VM stuff to get it installed. Im wondering what is, to date, the cleanest, simplest installation procedure that resembles a Windows 10 installation the closest.

My hardware is as follows:
Motherboard: ASUS M5A990X Evo 2.0
AMD Phenom II 965 Black Edition
12gb ram (currently)
Sapphire R7 350
250gb Crucial SSD
1TB WD Black HDD

Motherboard has the pins for a TPM chip but Im not interested in purchasing one and think its stupid of MS to force that on people.

#1 your CPU is not supported so you'll have to install via the unsupported hardware method. The easiest method is to use the latest Rufus tool and create a bootable flash drive to use to install. There are settings built in that allow one to install on unsupported hardware.

A quick check I do when asked if Win11 can be installed is to use WinKey + R and enter TPM.MSC, see if the computer has the required Trusted Platform Module.

I know I am gonna be trying to install it on unsupported hardware. I am just looking for the simplest method of installing Win 11 on unsupported hardware without doing some registry thing mid install or whatever. If I can replace a file in the iso or something then Im fine with that.

What are the chances of the Rufus method being invalidated by a windows update post install?

There's always a risk MS will shut off unsupported hardware installs no matter what method is used to install to begin with. Rufus is just the easiest method to try as it is stupid simple to allow Rufus to modify the installer. The latest version, 22H2, does not allow an installation without internet access as well as entering a Microsoft Account. Rufus let's you bypass these requirements as well as the hardware restrictions. For now.

Do you plan to install on a separate drive or do an upgrade on the current Win10 installation?
To do a Clean install on a separate drive, use Rufus to create the USB Win 11 installation drive.
To upgrade the current Win10 installation, follow How to upgrade from Win11 21h2 to Win 11 22h2 - A guide

It would be Win 10 Pro to 11 Pro.

If an update invalidates the install, whats the worst that it does? Does it just warn you or will it like not start up at all?

Hi,
Create a system image to a removable hdd and disconnect it while updating
Then it won't matter what happens you have backup to use if it goes bad.

Too much work, I want simple and wanna know it will stay.

Microsoft says that Win 11 is designed to be installed on a hardware that satisfy some requirements.
If you want to bypass those hardware requirements we can tell you how.
But there is no guarantee that your computer will upgrade or even update in the future.
Take the risk, buy a new computer or stay with Win 10 (my recommendation).

Yeah I guess Im probly gonna just stick with 10. My only concern then is after 2025 when they stop supporting it. This machine does what I want and its perfectly fine. Do I want the latest n greatest, sure, but its not in the budget and wont be. I do have 32gb ram coming tomorrow though cause this 12gb aint cutting it anymore. I just hate that MS thinks everyone can just fork over somewhere around a grand or more for a computer just cause they put some arbitrary requirements. My board has the pins for a TPM chip too but, again, I have no desire to get one cause I dont need the functionality in my life on a personal computer I just browse the net and watch videos on.

HA, sidenote, just randomly clicked on your computer specs. I have that same monitor sitting right here not being used. I loved it when I got it then I discovered LED backlit over CCFL sidelit and it was literally night vs day in brightness.

Adding a TPM chip isn't going to help in your case since your CPU isn't supported. There are still plenty of users running Win11 on unsupported hardware.

The simplest way is to use Rufus. The latest version of Rufus quietly in the background bypasses all of Microsoft's requirements. Just create your bootable USB stick and you should be good to go.

After 2025 it will probably run the same way or better than it does today. I still use Win 7 and will use as long as possible. Microsoft end of support only means they want you to spent some money to buy a new computer that does the same thing (a little faster) than your current does today.

An image ensures that if things go sideways you can go back to exactly the way you were. To me, that's the simplest failsafe possible.

I don't think the hardware requirements are arbitrary, I'm sure there is some functionality coming down the road that they intend to use. Sometimes having to backwards support everything means they have to make numerous compromises on the newer systems.

Supported CPU's aren't exactly cutting edge either. The 8th gen Intel Processors came out 5 years ago. And you can still run Windows 10 for 3+ more years with full support. So no real rush to get off of Windows 10. And you don't necessarily need a TPM module, a modern CPU that can emulate TPM works just fine.

And with the rufus installer, you can bypass the hardware requirements. Worst case scenario is that some functionality comes out in a few years requiring a component you don't have and you won't be able to upgrade to it. At that point, you can make a decision.

I just used Rufus to do a clean install of Windows 11 on my old desktop and it worked without a glitch. I used Rufus to create a USB boot drive that would bypass the need to use my MS account when installing. I hate that MS uses the first five characters of your email address.
