Solved Snipping tool trouble...

Hi All,

Since upgrading to Windows 11 just an hour or so ago I have found that the snipping tool is not allowing me to snip some areas of the screen. I have attached a photo so you can see what I mean. I have reset the app and turned off custom scaling with no joy. I have also just installed the latest Windows 11 driver from Nvidia.

Anyone have the same issue or is it just me? I have a 3 screen setup.

That is one interesting issue. I have triple screen setup on my laptop and snipping is working great on all displays.

I have a dual setup and I check it out and I had no issues.

Are you trying to snip across displays? What are the resolutions of the displays?
Maybe there is a size limit to the box that can be drawn?

I just tried the snip across screens and it works.. for me at least

I have this display layout and I can snip across all 3 displays with ease. The 2 bottom ones are FHD and the top one is 1440p.

Hmm, just a weird issue my end then. 2 are 1080p 24" and one is 22" 1080p displays. Worked fine in Windows 10 so must be some sort of bug in 11. Frustrating as i use that a lot. The dark grey area is where I can snip. if i try and snip the light areas it wont let me. I can however start in the dark patch and move out to the light which works! I will keep digging. Not seen anything else online about it, YET...

Oh by the way those dark areas come up as soon as i open snipping tool. I am not even attempting to snip at this stage. Basically telling me I can only snip in the dark areas.

Update 3. If i disconnect my 22" screen leaving two 24" screens it works fine. Something happening when the smaller screen is connected.

If you can't find a solution, Screen Presso is a far superior replacement to the snipping tool ;)

I was just gonna suggest you fiddle with scaling a bit...that one is known to cause some weird issues sometimes. Another thing I would have recommended to try is to play around with refresh rates a bit. There has been a lot of weird issues when you run screens with different refresh rates.

Just tried Screen Presso and its a little too advanced for what i need. It also seems to lag when selecting areas of the screen. By the way i had to revert back to 150% as the custom scaling applies to all screens and I only need it to apply to one. Back to the drawing board.

Setting scaling to 100% would most likely solve your issue but then you might need binoculars.

Makes perfect sense to me. Only other option is to increase the size of your displays, but that costs money and the screens might not fit on your desk. 😞
