So this happened. Two separate drives, wipe one the other went

So there are a few here that have been posting in my threads about my unusual start to my new computer set up. There is one thread where I ask about getting back lost info because one drive seemed to be deleting directories on the fly with no way to retrieve them using any sort of recovery software.

So upon thinking about it I decided to move everything off of the "D" drive and with my current set up that was nearly impossible but I managed it. So then I did a format on that drive and then rebooted and when I went to access my content from my "H" drive it was empty as well as the "D" drive. So not sure what to think of that. The only thing that comes to mind is if on this Gigabyte motherboard I MAY have used some unknown RAID hook up when I was hooking up the power and SATA cables. That's all I can think of to get my head around this strange behavior.

Sadly most of my texture libraries were on the "H" drive so I'm really a mess now. So I've once again downloaded another recovery app called R-Undelete from R-Tools Technology and see if that will work for a dunderhead like myself. If I can get that ONE directory back I'm good but if not oh well, time to track down as much of those libraries as I can find and do my best to recover from that standpoint.

In the mean time I am VERY curious about why when I blanked on drive another drive (not a partition but another drive) got blanked too!

Any ideas?

Thanks so much
Richard

The screen grab shows allot of partitions but if you look at the H and D you can see they are separate drives. The extra partitions you are seeing is from the SSD drive I have set up on this computer as a backup, it was actually my old operating system from my previous Windows rig but I removed Windows and just have all the files that are backed up on there like my Poser 11 Runtime directories that (THANK GOD) were on that drive or I'd really be F'd.

Looks to me that the H drive has not been blanked? Says only 89% free.

Looks rather a complicated set up. Do you have a backup image like Macrium to fall back on

I started to put things back in place on the G drive since that's going to be the home of my Runtimes for Poser so that's why your seeing some of the drive space used.

image_2022-02-23_072631.pngThe complicated look of things is that since the older SSD drive was my Windows installation months back the recovery partition and some other extra partitions that Windows created are still in tact. I'm scared to delete them because that "I" drive has very important directories on board still.

It really helps everyone involved, if you post a "complete" screenshot of Disk Management. Things that may be obvious to you, because you've seen it 100 times, may not be obvious to us, because we haven't seen it 100 times. :)

Like this... we especially need to see the things in the RED blocks. Aka, ALL the information Disk Management provides. :)

If the screenshot is over the 2MB ElevenForum limit, you can save it as .jpg to cut down on the file size.

Well, as @RFS has mentioned... there's still 360GB of something, on the H:\ drive, so be careful with that. :)

Those tools @zbook mentioned are safe... just tell Defender to "allow" them.

So sorry, I meant to type H drive as the new home for all things graphics so my mistake.

I've run the partition .bat and running the other one now. I'll zip them and post them from my Dropbox here. Does that work?

That should be fine. When you get them posted, make sure to mention @zbook cause he the expert on those logs.

I also see you have a LOT of System and Recovery partitions. If he appears, maybe @NavyLCDR can assist with that.

When available please upload or post a share link for V2 results.

All of the the bat files always trigger antivirus prompts.

The V2 and DM log collectors are false positives for Microsoft Defender.

I did that already I THINK. My post just above your post has a link to my Dropbox for downloading the results of both tests.

So just tried to run the BIOS update and I downloaded the version, top of the page, you suggested. Won't run on this system. Is this one of those where I need to put it on a thumb drive and do it from that when I reboot? I'm so rusty when it comes to doing anything outside of Windows it's not even funny.

Also went to get direct support from Gigabyte and I found a thread on line with a similar issue. My motherboard is somehow updated for Cyberpower so Gigabyte doesn't have a BIOS update for that. Here is the post

"Some prebuilts used brand name motherboards that are built just for them. You won't find BIOS files through the manufacturer but through the builder. This likely means no BIOS updates.

So for example it may say Gigabyte, iBuyPower may have had something unique done to it, meaning it has a special BIOS, mean only iBuyPower can give you a BIOS update" If this link is allowed here, here is the thread I found on line:
