Solved sound not working, everyday in the am, I have to reboot for sound to work

Couple days ago, upgraded to win11 from win10
Sound is in the HDMI cable to the screen
win10 never gave me any sound not working.

So what can I do to fix?

A good starting point would be to go through Settings and check all is set up correctly.
Then run the trouble shooter (When the sound is not working) It is in Settings>system>troubleshoot>other trouble shooters it is the 2nd one down in the list, Playing audio, there may be others there as well depending on your setup

ran some kind of help troubleshooter which tried various things. Then when still no sound, it said must be a problem with audio driver, I said go ahead, reinstall. Still no sound. Then I notice sp/diff on the sound setting page went to no device.

change what?

I just rebooted and sound is back working again

To the bottom one on the list, you have the top one highlighted.
Do you have Spatial Sound turned off
You could check settings in Control Panel

I found out what is happening, the Sharp HDMI goes away when it stops working
It disappears off the list. after a reboot, see there it is again.

I do notice the PC sleeping overnight, screen does turn off.
Is it shutting down something to save power overnight?
An issue with the nvidia sound HDMI driver when waking up?

Tell PC to never sleep? and waste power though.

I have mine set to PC never sleeps, If it is not doing anything, it won't use much power.
I went through my advanced power settings and tweaked the whole lot.
Is there anywhere you can alter the Sharp HDMI settings or an Audio / Sharp Control Setting App you can tweak

Also check in control panel it is your default device for audio

Try these links, they work for win 11 as well.
I take it the sound on the other device presumably tv stops as well
Was this an upgrade on an incompatible machine or did you bypass the requirements

I bypassed requirements, BUT, the nvidia card does meet requirements. That is how the sound gets to the TV.
The TV screen always shows the videos, just the sound gets dropped.

If you bypassed the requirements maybe Windows didn't configure it correctly. As I always say the requirements are their for a reason

I just wondered if the configuration was changed during the update
It is worth looking at the Nvidia control panel and settings

impossible, I am downloading, so they are not yet installed. Dont know if they will change any sound configuration.
I can tell PC not to sleep like your doing.

Ok, did a test, and manually slept the PC. On waking up, sound is working. Maybe it has to sleep longer, or maybe not a sleep issue at all.

All updates so far, none have failed. Anyone remember how win7 always had failing updates?

I found out, I do not have the Nvidia driver for the card installed, just a MS generic type.
It is a GT640, so downloading the win11 driver for the card now. 707mb, thats big.
