Hello,

as of a few days I have an issue with one specific monitor of mine. I physically re-organized my office, but didn't change anything regarding software or hardware when it started. So I have no idea what the trigger of the issue was.

The monitor in question is a Dell U2713HM. I own three monitors and multiple PCs, so I was able to test a few things.
Unfortunately for connectivity reasons I need to get it to work with exactly this monitor.

- My PC recognizes any other monitor, and any other combination of monitors, except that one.
Also the exact ports of my PC are recognizing other monitors
- The monitor gets recognized by other PCs with no issues
- I tested different cables
- I tested different channels (DVI, HDMI, DP)
- I physically removed the GPU, booted, installed it again
- I updated drivers, uninstalled and reinstalled GPU
- I tried to install driver for that specific monitor model, but it doesnt work as the monitor doesnt get recognized.

Now I am a bit lost...
- The monitor cant be broken because its recognized by other PCs
- The cables are working with other monitors and other PCs
- The GPU is working fine with other monitors, just as all the ports of the GPU

If anyone has an idea what the issue could be I would be very thankful.

Hi, welcome 🙏

The PC that the monitor doesn't work on, regardless that it isn’t physically working, can you see it in the Display Settings where the monitors show, is it identified?

Look for that monitor in device manager (Enable show hidden) and delete it's entry then shut down, reconnect it and restart..

(They're not active drivers, but you want the .inf to be installed.)

The latest ones listed are for Windows 8.1 X64, but they'll probably work.

If the installer complains about the Windows version, I'd extract the archive using 7Zip and manually install the drivers.

The PC that the monitor doesn't work on, regardless that it isn’t physically working, can you see it in the Display Settings where the monitors show, is it identified?

The reason I asked this, is because if it is identified in Display Settings, I was going to suggest messing with the settings for that monitor, like changing some of the settings for that specific monitor, resolution options maybe? (try 640 x 480 or something)
To see if it would give the monitor a kick.

Interesting, didnt know about that.
Just tried it. There were a bunch of hidden entries, but not the monitor in question.
Deleted all of them anyway and did what you suggested, but no luck. :-/

I am able to launch the installation of the drivers. But it checks for the monitor first, doesnt find anything and doesnt let me proceed.
Anything I can do about that?

I, by no means understand all this, but I think it relates to your problem somehow.

It's like your vid card is talking to your monitor, and your monitor is talking to your vid card.
But the one pairing where your issue lies... it seems like they aren't speaking the same language?

As I said...I don't understand all this stuff.
But your troubleshooting seems to have eliminated everything else.

Not sure that yours does.
Monitors can behave differently depending on what they’re connected to

You could try the following, nothing to lose.

Do a monitor settings factory reset (whilst connected to the PC)
  • Open the Menu OSD
  • Go down to Other Settings
  • Go down to Factory Reset
  • Check Enable

Do a Monitor reset (Not connected to the PC)
  • Unplug the power and all monitor cables from the back and side of the monitor
  • Hold in the monitor power button for 1 minute
  • Plug everything back in
  • Power on the monitor

I tried the rest without success.

Needed to plug in the monitor in another computer which recognizes it, just so I can get into the OSD as well... So that was a new glimmer of hope for a minute at least...

Did you also try the Dell Display Manager Application on that drivers page?

Hello,

as of a few days I have an issue with one specific monitor of mine.

In device manager, change your Display Adapter to the Microsoft Basic driver and reboot. Let’s eliminate your gpu driver having any sort of corruption.

Did you also try the Dell Display Manager Application on that drivers page?
(I don’t know what it does, I have a Dell monitor for one of my laptops but have never loaded that application)
Haha, it seems like it, yeah.
In these old Dell screens you can always access the channel select, but to go into the actual menu it needs to have a source.

I did, it doesn't do anything for my problem. But its a pretty nice tool you can use to divide your screen.

In device manager, change your Display Adapter to the Microsoft Basic driver and reboot. Let’s eliminate your gpu driver having any sort of corruption.
How do I do that? Select "uninstall device" of my GPU under display adaptors?
I did that, rebooted, reinstalled, didnt help. :-/
I have even formatted my PC in the meantime and the problem persists.

Did the basic driver allow the display to function?

You can download that tool, reboot into safe mode and DDU the graphics. It’ll purge the drivers completely and reinstall.
