Hi, Yesterday, My pc has not started to the windows. When I tried repeatedly, the Pc booted and automatic repairs screen was shown. Diagnosing Your Pc.. Attempting repairs and all of a sudden, I got the alert, that Startup repair cannot repair your pc message and asked me to try troubleshoot. I just selected ,continue and the PC booted to windows. I want to know, what went wrong and so, I tried to look at the log. I came across the tutorial that dealt with the matter in this forum. I Just selected the command prompt in the troubleshoot and then type notepad to execute notepad.exe. at x: drive. I went to the System assigned drive E: for my pc and browsed to the logfiles folder and selected the srt trail text log file. The log has words to the effect of root cause found and the cause turns out to be that my system OS booted successfully. I am clueless about what went wrong then.
If the system has booted successfully, then why it prompted diagnosing the pc,., attempting repairs have been shown and then list the root cause as OS boot successfully is not known. If the issue is the OS booted successfully, It should have the startup repair done successfully, I could not find any other logs elsewhere.
Of course, I ran sfc /scannow and dism command to find issues if any. My dism command loops at 62.3 % and then I again ran the sfc /scan command and it found some files corrupt and repaired them and then the dism command completed successfully,

while executing bootrec /fixboot, access is denied message appears. While running windows, my pc has gone to a kind of monitor off mode. Pressing mouse , enter switch could not wake up the pc. When I attempted reboot, It just goes to windows did not start correctly and asked me to boot in advance options.I just selected startup reapair, and the next moment, I get "Startup repair cannot repair your pc" and just I had to boot repeatedly to again boot normally. this is a weird behaviour. Regarding the window RE, I wish to state that the OS is preinstalled by Dell and i do not have a copy of the same

I don't see EFI system partition which is hidden Fat32 you can create one.

In this video, i will show you how to create EFI partition from within Windows Recovery Environment.

Hi, Freebooter, then what isthe ESP partition of hidden fat 32, shown in my diskpart command? is it not the Efi parttion. Please say, why fixboot is not executing with access is denied . My dell has a 250 gb SSD and 1 TB hard disk space. I think, that all OS would be in the SSD itself. even when , the X driectory shows in E: , when you boot in advanced op;tions . The technician , has partitioned this 1 tb drive to 2 500 gb storage drives .As such, as all the system main files are in C:, i think , that I am having weird problems. I have changed default download folders to the hard drives, but anyhow, I am having startup problem, and windows wake up problems as I described . why access is denied as I am the administrator of my pc

The EFI (Extensible Firmware Interface) system partition or ESP is a partition on a data storage device (usually a hard disk drive or solid-state drive)

When using Command Prompt to fix boot-related issues, it is common to face the “bootrec /fixboot Access is denied” error. There are many possible reasons for this problem to occur on your computer. In this video, i will help you troubleshoot this error.

you can use this to disable start up repair from the command prompt as administrator.

or you can use the registry to disable start up repair.

its about half way down in this article.
but you can open the registry and browse to this key.
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\CrashControl

in the window on the right look for.
AutoReboot

double click this entry and change its value to 0 (zero)

a restart of the system will be required to check all is running as it should.
best of luck, Steve ..

Hi, freeboot, I have found a way to my bootrec /fixboot access is denied problem.
Just I entered , Bootsect /nt60 sys and entered. the operation completed successfully changing the bootcodes in selected volume.
Then I issued bootrec /fixboot, and the operation completed successfully.
Hi, XxXx, I do not want altogether the startup repair to be stopped working. What I want is, When it produces the log, that the root cause found as 1 and it returns the value as OS boot successfully is the concern. If it has found the root cause, it should have given some other code and value instead of success boot of OS. If it has found and repaired, then , i should not get Startup repairs cannot repair your pc. I think , I made it clear. When actually I was having the problem in booting, it shows that the boot process was successful and hence could not repair. I do not understand

while executing bootrec /fixboot, access is denied message appears.

This command has been blocked by Microsoft: "Access is denied" - Windows 10 version 1709 (October 17, 2017) and newer installation media. And Windows 11 installation media.

That was completely pointless.

UEFI/GPT based system stores all the necessary boot data in an EFI system partition. On a GPT disk, Windows boots directly from the EFI system partition.

My partition table is listed as enclosed. I cannot say, which need to be selected as there are numerous volumes.

Note that the bcdboot command below may not fix your boot problem.

bcdboot x:\windows

- replace "x" with the volume letter of your Windows partition

UEFI:
- "BCDBoot copies the boot files to either the EFI system partition, or the partition specified by the /s option.
- "BCDBoot creates the BCD store in the same partition."

You can add the /v option to get more verbose output.

/FixBoot

This option writes a new boot sector to the system partition by using a boot sector that's compatible with Windows Vista or Windows 7. Use this option if one of the following conditions is true:

  • The boot sector was replaced with a nonstandard Windows Vista or Windows 7 boot sector.
  • The boot sector is damaged.
  • An earlier Windows operating system was installed after Windows Vista or Windows 7 was installed. In this situation, the computer starts by using Windows NT Loader (NTLDR) instead of Windows Boot Manager (Bootmgr.exe).

The boot sector interacts with the system's firmware, such as basic input/output system (BIOS) or unified extensible firmware interface (UEFI), during the boot process. The firmware finds the boot sector on the storage device and executes the code contained within it, initiating the boot process.

Okay you may be correct my bad as the UEFI does not rely on boot sector to boot the Windows 11 system, but there is a shadow MBR Within GPT disk for legacy application so that may need repairing.

i keep a copy of the EFI/Boot partition of mine and my wife’s in folders on a bootable live Linux USB drive.
that way i can use gparted within the Linux USB to replace the Windows EFI/Boot partition if needed or required.
in other words its just a backup of the Windows EFI/Boot partition. thats worked for me thus far.

best of luck, Steve ..

Interesting that discussion is on minute technical details. But When I entered , the command in x: bootrec /fixboot and it completed, does it not show that the command is executed correctly or only shows as executed . When I used this bootsect /nt60 sys. Does it not complete, the command by rightly doing the command to be accessible by fat32 system. Why microsoft is blocking the command of this type. fixmbr and fixboot are the essential commands to be used by users in any case of boot failures. Please say, if the command worked correctly or not. Moreover, what about system repair cannot repair my computer messages. If it shows, boot of OS successful as reason , it seems the log is not correct then
