Hello All

Once i get the Newer M.2 Drives into System Christmas for that

Wondering if its wise to keep my Sata Samsung 860 Evo 1TB drive installed, and use that for Storing Music Files, to be used when i Dj in SecondLife Program

Or is it best to continue to keep those Files on External

You can use the 2nd SSD just like any drive. There is absolutely no reason you cannot store anything you want, including music files, on that drive.

As always, with any data, be it on an internal or external drive, it is wise to have backups.

Definitely have backups on Other Externals, Plus a Copy on OneDrive as well, and a 4th External offsite at Relatives place, which reminds me i have to update that drive again soon lol.

*For years i was so cautious on SSD writes, especially when first started using M.2 and Sata SSD Drives, i purposely didn't write Documents, Downloads, Music, and that type of stuff for a long time on Those drives, always moved those items to former Spinner Hard drive i had installed lol. These days i did not put the Spinner drives back into newer system lol**

Little less cautious than i was in the past lol

I was the same when I first started with SSDs. But realistically, their lifespan is far longer than most people realize. I have SSDs that are many years old and still have lots and lots of life left. Do the calculations - you will be amazed at how much you can write every single day with minimal wear. I now use only SSDs (except on my Plex Server where I have ten 10TB drives (100TB total) of rotating disks just for the pure capacity. But on those SSDs I make zero effort to minimize writes and every SSD I have still has 90% or more life. Besides, you buy a new 512GB SSD for $23 or a 1TB SSD for about $50.

Yeah no longer as worried as i was when first started with SSD Drives lol thats for sure.

These days i just use the system and remember to backup weekly or before any major updates. and just enjoy my system to the fullest. and Remember to do my dust cleanouts monthly and make sure Power supply Filter is cleaned

Don't clean TOO much.
Many times, vigorous cleaning can accidentally break something.

You'll know when it's time to dust out the computer. At idle, your temps will be higher than normal. :-)
Remember to check the temps when the room temps are the same as the last time you checked the temps.


Lemme reword that.. LOL

With identical ambient temps (room temps), if the idle temps are higher than normal, it might be time to dust out your computer.

    Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 15 years?
Yeah i skipped last month, try to keep the system as clean as i can, but yeah i do not wanna break anything, so slowed down, maybe i'll go back to my former schedule of cleaning every 3 months,

My last Desktop PC i cleaned monthly. and system before that that didn't have PSU filter, i cleaned every 6 months

I can check at least the Power supply filter while i have system off for the M.2 Installs, and might just clean that for this month

and rest of system tackle next month possibly

I usually clean all the intake dust filters about once a month.
Then I dust out the entire computer about once a year.

Yeah... you should have dust filters on all your intake fans.

LOL. I think that I go a bit too far with this. I dust off my primary desktop PC once a month - and that includes a complete dusting of the PC innards and every blade on all 10 fans, every air filter, and every surface inside and out. My PC is always sparkling clean :-). I also HATE fingerprints on a screen which is why I have a tough time using a touch screen.

You will always find a microfiber cloth within arms reach of me when I am seated near any computer :-).

Whenever I sell used equipment, I have people I know lined up to purchase my stuff because it is always in absolute top-notch condition. I cannot stand a dirty computer.

EDIT: I should add some more comments to this: I am very careful when cleaning. You do not want to hit fans with a blower unless you immobilize them first because a blower could spin them at such high speeds that they become damaged. I prefer a good stiff brush for cleaning fans. Also, I make sure to ground myself so I don't zap something with static electricity. The point is simply that if you proceed cautiously, there really is no reason you cannot clean a PC frequently. I simply moved my obsession from vehicles to PCs. I used to wax my car every other week, now that energy has been directed to computers :-).

My dust filters on my Fractal Meshify S2 do a fantastic job, because I've had this PC now for 4 years and i've only cleaned out the inside 1 time, and it wasn't dirty at all. It's so clean inside at the present time, that you would swear that I just assembled the box this afternoon.

I take no write precautions whatsoever with my SSD's and I never have. Still have a working Intel X25 mG2 80GB drive from ~2009 that still works. But at 80GB it's pretty much useless.

When I built my current machine, 4 years ago, the 2TB WD SN850 was $450. So, I only put in 1. Later, i got a 2TB SATA SSD as it was way cheaper.. For the handful of games I play, I could tell no difference from a game standpoint between games on the NVME or the SSD. So, I still use the SSD for games. Keep my more expensive NVMe for the OS, apps and virtual machines (which can really take advantage of the increased I/O.

Currently to me Battlefield 2042 game and Forza horizon 5 seem slow loading to me from my Sata Ssd current game drive, don't think Kingston Current Boot NVMe has anything to do with that as far as I know

Anyways that issue will be solved soon for sure once and for all

For my Corsair case it's the exact opposite. I have the filter for the front fans, but not the power supply. I've been meaning to get one for my power supply but keep forgetting.
