Some said in a post...
Windows 11 is not better it is different.
I think that is a spot on comment.

Agree that it is different, but it is also better for me (faster and cleaner). A byproduct of its introduction is my increase knowledge of my system, OS backup options, and enabling security features that I was not previously using.

Good Comment Quandary. I find it fast but not faster, because it's on a different machine and my win 10 machine is very high spec so like lightning, it's still fast. I have found a lot of improvements but also a lot of things not as good. I just wondered if when Win 11 is as polished as 10 will they bring out Windows 12 :D

Saying anything is better is a subjective call. While you can quantify when something is faster everything else is subjective.

Having said all of that, I've found that 11 is better than 10.. the interface change is much welcome and as for overall performance it's a tad bit faster but that could be a perceptional thing and not quantifiable. So far it seems to zip along a bit better but again,, that's just a subjective call

Overall, I like 11 and for me it's a keeper.

I agree that Windows 11 is not technically any better than Windows 10 (at least not on my computers). But the differences between it and Windows 10 means that I like Windows 11 better than Windows 10.

I like 11 but I think it needs some of the smaller things ironed before I switch my main machine over. I do have one one pc running really well on 11

My 'main machine', or at least the laptop I find myself using the most often, is also the one I've had the longest. At 10 years old it is well past its retirement date, but it has all my favourite software, configured just as I want it. It has also developed a couple of obscure faults that are most likely due to hardware problems. It is time to copy its installed OS to new hardware.

Two months ago I did just that, buying a modestly spec'd 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Then I tested upgrading this test 'clone' to 11. I've been using it as my main machine since then. It's System One below.

There are things I like about 11, and a couple I don't. On balance it's a 'keeper', if only for the vastly improved Settings app.

I have now wiped this 'test run' and officially migrated my 'main machine' to it's new home. It's running on Windows 10 until 5th October, whereupon I will have no hesitation in upgrading to 11 as soon as it is offered through Windows Update.

The rest of my machines would need a similar 'hardware transplant' to qualify for 11. I'll decide on that later, after all I've got another four years to make up my mind

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update.

I can't wait for all the posts on October 6....."I didn't get Windows 11, what's wrong?" and "I woke up this morning and my computer upgraded to Windows 11 overnight. Why did Microsoft force this on me, how do I go back!" You know they are coming!
Hi,
Well when just manually checking for updates activates the install of updates it's not a new thing on 10 so yeah it's going to happen sooner or later and it's ms's fault not the user.
Pretty much why I don't manually check for updates until after I've created a system image but then again I disable updating period.

It will be offered as an optional upgrade. You will manually have to choose to install it. If Microsoft is sane, and I think they are. :)

Of course The 5th October is the official release date for Windows 11, for the OEMs and direct sales the Windows Update release schedule will be as always staggered (also known as Drip Fed), so many users of Windows 10 may not be offered it for months, this is especially true for those borderline systems which may have difficulties meeting the requirements Both the Headline hardware requirements but also those which may struggle to run the OS - and cause a negative news opinion of the OS, these systems will eventually be offered the update but not until there are enough "happy" users using the OS

I just noticed that Windows 11 does not support Office 2013 which is two years before it's MS official end of life. So I am going to carry on with Windows 10.
Planned obsolescence rules.

Lack of / End of Support does not mean it will not work - just that if it has a problem Microsoft will not fix it.

I would stay with Windows 10 for a short time - a Month or two and check the reports of any issues, then if it looks good, (and Windows 11 gives you advances in other ways), image your Windows 10, update to windows 11 and you will have 10 days to try it with your needs, the image is a backup against missing the rollback date

Yes, wait and see is a good tactic. 2013 is working well on my Windows 11 VM

When you think of how many users are still running Windows 7 after it reached end of life almost 2 years ago - a lot of them businesses, and not having any real issues, it does give you hope :-)
