I upgraded my my cpu from a 12700k to a 13900k on an msi z690 ddr4 tomahawk Wi-Fi I also upgraded my ram from 32 ddr4 3600 mhz cl16 to 64 gb 3600 mhz cl18. I have the newest bios. My cpu score increased but gpu score went down from over 19k to 15k. I tried reflashing the bios. Reseat gpu. Tried old ram. Fresh ddu install. Rebar is on. Xmp is on. Pcie 4.0 x16 is enabled. This is a 450w 4090. Psu is a seasonic gx 1000w and I and I have a thermaltake Atx 3 1200W on the way. I heard of similar issues on asus z690 on Reddit and you need a management engine firmware update but msi does not provide such. Not sure what to do.

I'm a little dubious about the need for an MEI firmware update, but: 16.1.25.2020

See: Asus RoG forums It's not specific to Asus motherboards.

If you try it, please let us know if it helps.

I'd like to get my hands on an RTX 4090, but so far I've avoided dealing with resellers. (Scalpers, if you like.) They seem to have bought up almost all of the available stock.

I could be way off but, I was watching Linus Tech Tips and the Intel 13 series are recommended by Intel to use "high quality" DDR5 RAM kits to get optimal performance. Maybe it does not do as well with older DDR4 memory? Shooting in the dark here but, just a thought.

Could Windows Update have messed with the graphics drivers while upgrading to Windows 11 v22H2? I would use DDU to completely remove the drivers and then install latest drivers directly from nVidia. Don't trust Windows Update to install graphics drivers. Another possibility is that the graphics settings have restored to default, so you have to tweak performance again. Also make sure in Settings, Privacy and Security, Windows Security, Device Security, Core Isolation, Memory Integrity setting is disabled, or you have a severe performance penalty.

Indeed, I have suffered from Netflix lagging and "simply" removing the old driver did the trick.

Switching your RAM (timing) to CL18 from previously CL16 slows performance for sure. CL18 RAM is slower than CL16 by about 13% when maintaining same clock speed.

I doubt that would affect the GPU score much.

I'm also skeptical that going from CL16 to CL18 would have such a dramatic effect. That larger than if the performance was scaled directly with the latency. (It does not.)

I suspect Memory Integrity is enabled severely reducing performance, it is a known issue, or less probable inappropriate graphics drivers or graphics settings. So first make sure Memory Integrity is disabled and also upgrade to the latest official nVidia graphics driver, do not ot use Windows Update! A driver can make a huge difference in performance.

You didn't need the MEI firmware update? (I only see drivers on that page.) Good.

Thanks for posting back. You may save others some time.

I updated the firmware It did not change anything but after I installed that new mei driver then it worked. So I have both.

Most probably MEI was doing a background security check affecting performance. Newer version of the driver fixed this bug. That's why it is a good idea to keep our drivers updated. However I prefer to manually download the latest drivers from manufacturer and not trust Windows Update. Most times it makes a great difference in performance and available features over using a generic driver from Windows Update.

So something interesting happened tonight. I decided to update my other Intel drivers such as Wi-Fi/Ethernet/serial io because they are provided on the Asus forum too. After updating them my 3dmark went back to 15k gpu score in timespy extreme. My game fps remains the same. I tried rolling back a few drivers and no dice. I’m still on the me firmware and Mei driver that fixed it. I noticed in 3dmark using afterburner the gpu utilization wasn’t that good when it was 15k I don’t remember 19k. I guess don’t fix it if it isn’t broken. A few 3d mark benches I get what I should be getting though. Maybe I should just wait until Intel/msi provide official Mei driver/me firmware stuff it could be a bug with 3dmark. My games are fine maybe I should stop worrying about 3dmark and play games.

That’s where I got the updated firmware and Mei driver that fixed it.

I'm not sure it's 100%, but Intel seems to be offering driver updates mostly through third parties.

Intel no longer makes motherboards.
