The idea of this thread came up recently upon learning that a lot of old timers (@Scannerman @RD Mercer ) here are still rocking an Intel i7-4790K processor. Mine is paired with an ASRock Z97 Xtreme6 mobo and MSI R9 270 GPU which already died on me about 4 years ago (thread here) but I was able to revive it by sticking it in the oven with a wrong temperature setting... hahaha. It is currently running Windows 11 24H2.
Please share your classic 4790K rig.

You young fellas and your 4790’s. When I was young, we had to 4770 all the way to school. In fact, I still 4770 today.

Yeah right. I bought the 4770 because GTAV came out in the same year and I was desperate to play it on a decent rig. 🎆🖱️

I always buy a year behind, so I guess that makes me always 2 years behind.. :-) I really did love my 4790k. Think I still have the chip somewhere. FIVR!!

I switched from intel to AMD, so I built another one from scratch and kept my 4790K alive.

No i run 4790K continual at 2.5 Volts and 4.6GHz (delidded) all the time (idles) + 1660 GTX (un OCed) and still competes. Never BSDs. OCing the DTX is like putting lipstich on a pig.

Have 4790K all cores at 4,6 GHz for two years, still steps down (730MHz) I delided it and temps less than 80 on prime test. I would put it against a lot newer models like gen 6 or 7 and lower end 8s.
