That happens to me occasionally. Just wait a minute, then it will eject. I would suggest closing file explorer before clicking on the taskbar to eject the usb drive. Sometimes with file explorer open, the external drives are being read.

Thanks
Someone on reddit said that windows will took a lot of time to flush the few GBs from the cache to the disk
but i waited 5 minutes when robocopy finished
i'm just worry this kind of behavior can corrupt any of the data that i backed up to the external hard drive ?

For a very long time I had the same experience when trying to safely eject a usb thumb drive from the task bar at the bottom right. Nothing I read helped me resolve that. I could do it by going to This PC and ejecting the device from there, so that’s what I wound up doing for a long time. I think you are lucky that you can at least do it on the second try. I was pleasantly surprised that after the last update the problem was resolved on my pc.

I get that too occasionally. I find that if I sign out, then sign back in again, it stops any process that may be preventing me ejecting the usb drive.

It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update.
