What is it?​

On Windows 11, the feature to have thumbnails for folder icons which show their content has been removed.

Therefore, this software aims to recreate that functionality and recreate a seamless and native-like experience for the user.

How does it work?​

The library uses the ImageMagick library to composite natively generated thumbnails into a single folder thumbnail, and it sets it as the folder's icon using desktop.ini.

Can't seem to get it to work, How do you install it? I assume I have done it correctly or maybe MS has blocked it I am using version 22000.176

The code is well written - seems an adaption from C/C++ with PInvoke of native Win32 API's - nevertheless... I can't figure where the thumbnails are supposed to come from.

I have tried a couple of these programs, one bought up a box with options but still I could not get it to work. I either got the options wrong or MS has stopped it.

I am assuming MS did this because there is just no way to make the thumbnail look good with their present folder style. The thumbnail in the older OS's up to Windows 10 generates a better folder view with the folder standing up than it does lying on it's back, fubar on MS's part. Guess they really didn't think it through.

Ahh, that may well be the problem then, I don't have it either. I didn't even know there was a 5.0 mine only goes up to 4.xxxx I must check the other pc. Thanks for tip.

I get this with that command, 'dotnet' is not recognized as an internal or external command, in CMD also not running in PowerShell. Thanks.
Edit, Google says it should be listed in programs and features. There is a Microsoft download site but would it be worth messing around with it?

I agree, The way I work is great to open explorer and see the contents, it's easier to find what I want and I think it looks better
