Thunderbolt Drivers & App for Windows 11

I have installed the latest Intel TB driver for the Asus Thunderbolt EX 4 card in my PC (v1.41.1134.0), but cannot find the MS TB Control Center app on the MS store. The TB app from Asus will not install on my system (install process just dies).

Can anyone tell me where to find the MS TB Control Center app for Windows 11?

Are you sure it's not the Intel Thunderbolt control Application? It appears that many users are having the same problem. Mine was a carryover from my update to win11 from 10

It is an Intel app, but is supposed to be available in the MS Store. I can't find it on the Intel or MS Store websites.

You are right, it is not there. I have it on mine but find no use for it whatsoever, everything works fine without it, I have never set mine up. have a look at this, it clearly says its available in the store even though it's not. maybe its bundled with the latest drivers

While on the Thunderbolt subject, if there is a Intel Thunderbolt controller on the notebook system but no thunderbolt devices, is it still supposed to show a device in Device Manager?

@Almighty1 I checked mine, it shows up in Device Manager under the System Devices. My app for thunderbolt as never been set up, it just works. I hope that's helpful to you

@The-Hive - I couldn't find anything named Thunderbolt in Device Manager, I have the app on the system as it's part of the Intel driver installed from Dell but when I try to install a newer driver from Intel, it always says I already have a newer driver installed.

I got an Alienware and I checked and it's where I said on mine. Personally I just use it and rely on Windows Update to give me updates. If you have Support Assist installed that would find it.

@The-Hive - I have a Dell XPS 15 9570 Notebook and from searching online, it seems the Thunderbolt will only show up in device manager when there is a Thunderbolt device plugged into the system. But this is what it shows in Apps & Features:

I guess your are good then, probably find the app is no longer needed. Plug in and try it. This is what I got, an older date than yours

The reason mines has a recent date was because I installed the latest version from station-drivers a few weeks ago.

On my desktop PC (Asus w EX 4 TB card), the TB ports are working. I've installed the latest driver I could find (1.41.1193.0) after removing the TB device and forcing removal of all "tb" drivers found in the hidden device category in Device Manager. The new driver install then worked, but the TB device (under System Devices in Device Manager) shows an error (43) and says it could not start. Nevertheless, my TB ports seem to be working.

One odd thing it does is that my display (connected via a TB 4 port) flashes off and on when the PC wakes from sleep. Only a reboot stops that. This is a problem I've seen reported many times with TB video on both Macs and PCs.

On my laptop (Dell), the Device Manager does not show any TB device, but the TB port also seems to work. I didn't install any specific TB driver. I just updated all drivers via the Dell update app.

Clearly, TB still has a lot of loose ends.

No because I don't have any Thunderbolt devices to plugin to try it.

In that case @Almighty1 there is nothing to worry about. I checked my app and it seems redundant as it says No Approval Needed, Devices will connect automatically.

I don't know if this is relevant to you @BoulderJ But I have just had a notification from Intel for the Thunderbolt driver as part of "chipset" so maybe not for you or maybe worth having a look at

Some progress here. I found that the failure of the Intel TB driver to start as I described above was solved when I plugged power into the 6-pin port on my Asus ThunderboltEX 4 card. The manual for the card suggest that this power connection is optional and only needed if you are using the TB ports to power or charge another device (e.g. a laptop). Once I plugged in the 6-pin power connector, the TB driver starts with no errors. This also means that the Properties of this device in Device Manage includes the Power Management tab.

I unchecked the "Allow computer to turn off this device..." thinking that might solve the screen flashing when waking from sleep. No. I still have that problem.
