I've been getting a "Too Many Requests" login error for hours today trying to access my Microsoft account and anything related to it such as OneDrive.

It appears that this problem has been happening to other people for quite a while. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? Any workarounds or fixes?

possibly failed login attempts from others. i have mfa on mine that requires a prompt on the app to login no matter what. every few weeks i check login attempts and there are tons from all over the world (or vpns). you can try using your phone to login (using cell network, not wifi) and see if it works. whenever you do get in, i would advise to enforce the authenticator app prompt. now days attempted breaches are way too common.

Sounds to me like someone may have changed your MS password. I had a friend that I helped with the exact same issue. When I finally got into her account I checked all the places that had accessed her account and found successful sign-ins from a middle eastern country. So someone had successfully hacked her MS account and managed to change her password. The only verification method she had on file was another email address; no cell phone. I have no clue how it was done.

See if you can change your password this way since MS will send a code to your phone or alternate email address if you have one on file. Make you password difficult using numbers, cap and little letters, and at least one special symbol. More is preferable. Reset a forgotten Microsoft account password - Microsoft Support

The only solution (workaround) that I've been able to find is to change your external IP address.
Any better solution(s) [workaround(s)] appreciated.

Passphrases are just as secure and easier to memorise. Pick three unrelated words and string them together. Put a special character between them if you wish.


Example: orangetreesnake or orange£tree£snake

Do you login using sing-in requests, like via MS Authenticator or Outlook mobile app?
The advantage is that you will get an instant notification about any login request.
It is also handled by MS servers directly, so it should not cause any issues.
You do not even have to enter the password, since it is passwordless.

You can temporarily disable main login and use the alternative one.
I have it disabled for this reason as well, so it can not be abused.

I switched from passwords to passkeys, and that seems to have solved the problem for my Microsoft accounts when logging in using a browser.

I have a Microsoft 365 subscription and use Outlook for my primary email account. I don't know if or how my Microsoft 365 applications including Outlook work with passkeys.

I'm not a fan of passkeys at this point. I tried setting up one with Amazon (using 1Password). It seemed to save in 1Password, but when I went to use it, it did not work. That was a few months ago, so maybe things have changed, but I'm still wary.

I haven't had any problems with passkeys using Enpass.
I don't use 1Password, so I can't really help. Maybe someone who uses 1Password can offer suggestions.
