I have a modded Lenovo T480s with a touchpad from an X1 Yoga gen 3. I have been able to install the correct Synaptics driver and change the group policy editor to skip automatic installation of the drivers for the original touchpad. However, when I put the laptop to sleep by closing the lid, upon resuming the touchpad click functions stop working. The same also occurs with the trackpoint. Cursor movement works normally with both devices. The only way to resolve is by rebooting.

In Device Manager, under the Intel Serial IO I2C Host Controller - 9D60, Power Management section, I have unchecked the option "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power", however over time this option becomes enabled again and the issue recurs. Is there a way to permanently uncheck this option?

Following up on this. I have discovered that the behavior only occurs when the lid is closed. If I change the setting to "Do Nothing" when the lid is closed, the issue still occurs. If I put the laptop to sleep first, then close the lid, the trackpad works normally after resuming. It seems to only occur when the lid is closed while the laptop is awake.

Still looking for advice or direction on how to resolve.

it's been a moment since I've heard Synaptics. Those drivers gave me tons of headaches until Windows devices started using OS-based Precision drivers across the board. On top of that this seems to be a well known issue (that I'm still currently having with my fingerprint reader) where devices with proprietary drivers are being turned off in sleep mode to save power and BIOS settings or OS bugs are making it impossible to save those settings on reboot. Try making a custom power plan in Windows power options and use that. My sensor still turns itself off on hibernate, but not on sleep. Basically, anytime the computer reboots those power options will be reset, so if you reboot, the default settings will reset and you'll have to recheck them. It's barely a workaround, but it's the best I've been able to find atm.
