Turning off onboard GPU

I have the 1st of two HP ENVY 34 INCH ALL-IN-ONES, it has an intel 750 onboard GPU and a factory installed NVIDIS GeForce 3060 GPU. When doing my set up of the pc I found I couldn’t turn off the onboard GPU and only use the NVIDIA GPU.

Can anyone help.

I had used the device manager to disable the intel Gpu, but windows moved the default video to the windows basic video driver not to the NVIDA GPU.

That is done in bios.

The Intel GPU is used for display and all 2D graphics and the nVidia GPU is used for 3D graphics only. It is not connected directly to the monitor, so you cannot disable the Intel graphics. Both cards are used. You can only disable the nVidia, but then you would have very low 3D performance, not wise move.

I presume that your all-in-ones are typical: basically laptop components built in to a desktop package.

That would suggest that the machines are using nVidia's Optimus. Seems slightly absurd in a system where run time on battery power isn't an issue.

I've never owned such a system, but it is supposed to be possible to set the nVidia GPU as used all the time in the nVidia control panel.

As I said, the option should be in advanced settings in bios

Most likely the outputs (HDMI) are attached to the Intel card, the Nvidia is only used in 3D. So you cannot disable the Intel card, or you would have no display whatsoever. Why do you want to do that anyway? You would not see any improvement in performance.

To be clear, Optimus uses a single output for both GPUs.

I doubt that it's possible to disable the Intel iGPU in such a system.

In all dual GPU laptops I have seen the on chip GPU is used for all 2D display functionality and the discreet card for 3D. It is possible to disable the discreet card and lose 3D acceleration, but you cannot disable the on chip card. Even if you don't install proper drivers, Windows will use Microsoft Basic Display Adapter to show basic graphics at standard resolutions (800x600, 1024x768, 1280x1024 etc) without acceleration. This will impact performance and also you won't be able to control the screen brightness. All-in-one computers are essentially laptops with a larger screen without the keyboard and touchpad. So the same here, you cannot disable the on chip card. Installing proper drivers for both the on chip card and the discreet card maximize performance as the two work in parallel.
