Windows 11
Hello all,

New member - I have a Lenovo V14 G2 ITL Core i5 8GB 256GB SSD that was running Windows 11 and Archlinux in dual boot successfully till last weekend when I ran a windows update, I suspect the update rebooted the laptop automatically whilst I was away from the desk. Upon restarting it went back on Archlinux as it is my main OS. Normally, I just have to restart the laptop and select it to boot into Windows (pressing the F12 key to get the option) for the update to finish.
But this time, Windows went missing from the UEFI list.

I have tried to repair the UEFI by rebooting the laptop using a Windows 11 USB stick, but the hard drive isn't listed by diskpart - after a bit of research I believe it is due to the IRST driver missing (Intel® Rapid Storage Technology). I have search the web for a solution, to load the driver onto the said USB stick to no avail.

Is there a way to load the driver into the USB stick or download a version with it already?
Is there another way to repair the UEFI files?

Thank you for your time and hopefully your assistance.

Check the settings for secure boot and VMD > check the drive detection with them off

If the new problem is IRST then one or more of these links may be useful:

Thank you for your reply.

The secure boot is disabled, not sure what CMS is.

Thank you for those links, but they refer to installing process, and not using the usb to access the CMD and runs some commands.

Sorry for the typo, I am accessing the CMD to run some command line to hopefully repair the UEFI files in the UEFI partition.

I know how to download the driver from the Lenovo website - thank you.

The question is can I add the driver into the USB containing the Windows 11 installation.

Again, thank you for your assistance.

But that video, which I have found before posting explain how to add the IRST driver into another USB to install the driver when you install windows.

I do not want to install a new windows or change the already install windows on my drive.

What I would like to achieve is to load that driver into the windows usb stick so I can access my hard driver using the live usb repair to access the CMD tool.

Boot into Setup (Bios)
Go to the Boot Tab.
Is the HDD Mode set to UEFI or CSM/Legacy?
If running only CSM/Legacy, see if you can add UEFI boot mode

If you need to, You can download the IRST Driver and save it to the Root of the USB Windows Installer Flash drive.
When doing an Install of Windows, choose your Language, then Install Now, and then Custom Install
In Where do you want to install Windows? if no drives are showing and it says Load Drivers Browse to the Flash drive and install the IRST driver.

I will have to check tomorrow.

Back to your point of adding the driver to the root of the USB. I do not want to install windows or modify the drive.
If I go to that step, where does the driver get installed? Would it be in the memory for the time being?
And secondly, would I be able to go back to the beginning to access the CMD too?

If you were booting Windows properly before the update, then you don't need the IRST driver
But this Explains it.

You should download EasyBCD to manage your Dual Boot with Linux and Windows

Thank you for your replies and sorry for the late response.

I do not need a boot loader, the issue is that the Windows information from the UEFI partition that loads the OS (in my case Windows 11 and ArchLinux) have vanished since the update.
A boot loader will only read the information that each OS place on the UEFI partition to load the correct OS.

I need those driver so when I am using the USB stick to load the windows 11 installation/repair on the memory the system can access my internal hard drive to repair the boot information on the UEFI partition.

You are missing the point.

I cannot boot windows since the files are missing from the UEFI partition !!

I am trying to restore those files to gain access back to windows without having to do a fresh install.

Is that clearer?
