I checked my Win11 from April and it doesn't show KB5018418 as installed nor available. My Win11 Version is 22H2 RTM Build 22621.674 as of yesterday evening's Patch Tuesday updates, got it on 3 machines. Get the Windows Version and Build by putting winver in the WinKey + R box. If I recall correctly Build 22000.xxx was for Version 21H2.

Windows Version 22H2 Build 22000.795
I am having similar issues with KB5018418, but my error code is 0x800f0845. Every Cumulative Update that has come out after KB5015882 (7/21/2022) has been a disaster and fails to install for me regardless of what I do. My board is a Gigabyte Z390 UD 1.1 with an I5-9600 and I haven't had any issues until these updates started to fail to install. I started experiencing update problems in August when I went from KB5014697 (2200.739) to KB5016629. When that failed, I went back and found update KB5015882 and that installed fine and brought my system to 2200.832 build. No hardware or software changes, all drivers and peripherals were the same but for some reason these updates are failing miserably on some systems, not all. All cumulative updates including KB5018418 have the same failure 0x800f0845 after automatic repair. The update installs 30% and then on restart the wheel spins forever. You have to force shutdown and undo the changes to get the system up and running. Not sure what Microsoft did on the updates after KB5015882, but they sure broke something that was working fine for me. Short of resetting the system and installing every app, I've done everything imaginable. People recommend wiping and starting a fresh install. That's like bringing a car to a mechanic and if he can't find the cause replaces the entire engine. Has to be some sensible troubleshooting mechanism out there to identify the root cause. Even doing a complete repair reinstall with the ISO from MS results in the same boot issue with spinning wheel. Which leads me to believe that whatever code they added back in August is included on all updates including ISOs. I can't imagine there aren't more people out there with this issue and Microsoft is not publicly acknowledging this blunder.

I've done all that including clean boot with only Microsoft services running and the same issue. BTW, does your install go to 30% and upon restart the wheel spins indefinitely? I have a feeling that this issue has to do with some driver but I don't know which specific driver is the culprit.

Normally these updates are done in two stages. The first stage is where it completes 30% of the install after the download finishes. Then the system will restart and if everything goes well it'll complete the rest of the 70% before the login screen comes on. That's what I've observed on other computers that I have. A laptop that I have had no issues which is why I suspect some driver issue. One likelihood is that maybe Microsoft changed the security requirements for drivers and while they were o.k. in the earlier updates they somehow fail in the newer updates. This is just my theory and I don't exactly know why it's acting this way. I've read other posts outside this forum with the same issue on multiple systems especially in an enterprise where IT is managing hundreds of computers and a good number of them fail the updates.

You can try manually installing KB5015882 by downloading it from Microsoft Catalog. That update brings it up to Version 22000.832 which will be later than what you currently have. If that update works for you then it'll corroborate what I said about newer updates having issues.

Sounds like your problem is a little different than mine. Have you tried running DISM, chkdsk & sfc? Also run windows update troublehooter.
