Microsoft has released a new Update Stack Package version 1023.301.1012.0 to Windows Insiders in the Beta and Release Preview Channel.

Through the Update Stack Package, we can deliver improvements to the update experience prior to the PC taking a monthly or Feature Update. The Update Stack Package will help ensure that your PC has the highest likelihood of successfully installing new updates with the best and least disruptive experience available.

Update Stack Packages will be delivered to Insiders through Windows Update just like builds and cumulative updates are. Insiders in the Beta and Release Preview Channel can go to Settings > Windows Update and check for updates to receive the Update Stack Package.

It completely bricks my PC. At first thought that it was Build 23403.1001 that was preventing the machine from booting. After several cycles of system restores, have determined by accident that it was the update stack package that is the issue. Each time the machine starts up, the initial boot screen with the windows logo and the white spinner load up the system drivers without a problem but after (successfully) loading the video (NVIDIA) am left with completely black screens (not blank as the monitors do not fall back to power saving mode due to no signal).
