Insider Updated Photos app for Windows 11 with iCloud Photos

  • Staff
Hello Windows Insiders,

During today’s event showcasing what’s next for Microsoft Surface, we showed that we’re bringing iCloud Photos integration directly to the updated Photos app which began rolling out to Windows Insiders a few weeks ago. We are beginning to roll out an update to the Photos app today (version 2022.31100.9001.0) to Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel with this new integration.

The Microsoft Photos app allows you to view, organize, and share photos from your PC and OneDrive, and with this update, you’ll now be able to add and access your iCloud Photos directly from within the app as well. Your iCloud Photos will appear alongside photos from other sources in the beautifully redesigned “All Photos” gallery view, as well as on a dedicated page you can access from the side navigation pane.

To get started, follow the quick setup steps in the Photos app! You’ll need to sign into the iCloud for Windows app on your PC and ensure that “Photos” are selected.

FEEDBACK: Please file feedback in Feedback Hub (WIN + F) under Apps > Photos.

Thanks,
Dave Grochocki, Principal Product Manager Lead – Windows Inbox Apps

I heard that Microsoft has some differences with Google coz I've seen a lot of people demanding that google Photos should also be integrated in the new Photos app, is this true?

The new Photos App is worse than the now Legacy one - After searching around for a few minutes in how to change its behaviour I immediately went back to the Legacy one and wrote a stern review & feedback.
  • In the Main Window - The App treating clicking ANYWHERE on a Picture as a means to start a Selection Process instead of just opening a Picture is an atrocity in itself but THEN having to pinpoint accurately click on the Selection Checkmark Box for adding subsequent Pictures to the Selection Process instead of accepting a click ANYWHERE on the Picture is beyond retarded.
  • The Secondary Window that opens when you OPEN a Picture does neither remember the last state itself was ( Full Screen opened or not ) nor the mode I watched Pictures ( Original Size or Screen Filling ) making it a chore of additional clicks EVERY DAMN TIME I start a new Picture viewing Session.
  • In the Main Window - The lefthanded Sidebar takes up unnecessary Picture viewing Real-estate and as such I minimize it but - like the Secondary Window not remembering its last state - it too does not remember me minimizing it in the last session thus constantly opening up in the Maximized state /sigh.
  • Also WHY does viewing a Picture NEED to open a Secondary Window to begin with?!
Total atrocity to deal with...
