Windows 11 24H2
My MBR (Legacy boot) computer doesn't meet Win11 specs so I bought a new system and had my existing Windows 10 system converted to GPT (UEFI) and installed on my new computer as a dual boot with Windows 11.

Snip of management 10.webp

My Windows 10 now shows as upgradable to Win 11, which was the plan.
My question is, can I format the exising Win 11 (D:) partition, and add the vacant space to (F:) before upgrading Win 10 to Win11. I don't want two Windows 11 partitions.

Having lived with legacy Bios for a lifetime, I'm entering unfamiliar territory with UEFI and don't want to create a non bootable system by deleting the Windows 11 partition.

Deleting the D partition and expanding the F partition should not affect the boot record. So you can still boot in Windows 10 and simply remove the Windows 11 boot entry. However I think you can expand only to the right using Disk Manager. To expand to the left (move data to the empty space) you need a third-party program such as Minitool Partition Wizard.

Is the Recovery partition for Win 10 also the one for Win 11?
To find out, booting from win 10, open a cmd window as administrator and type:
reagentc /info

I'm not sure what I'm looking for here, but it doesn't seem positive.

As I thought, there is no Recovery partition for Win 10
I suggest that, under Win 10, you delete the Win 11 partition (D:) and the recovery partition. Leave it unallocated and update Win 10 to Win 11 and a new recovery partition will be created. Once in Win 11 create a new data partition on the unallocated space or expand the F: partition to the left using a good drive manager like MiniTool

What about letting Windows 10 update to 11 (windows update says it's ready to go) and if all works, and it boots to the "new" windows 11, then I delete (D:)
Would that work? I'm concerned that if the update to 11 fails for some reason, I might have an unbootable computer.

Okay, all sorted. Thanks to Megahertz for the info about reagentc I was able to create a windows 10 recovery partition using the reagentc /enable command and the update to 11 worked. I now have 11 as a 10 update, and a clean install 11 as dual boot. I will delete the clean install in due course.
Thanks to all who replied
