USB drive shows wrong files??

Why in the hell does this happen? I put files abc on a usb disk under Windows 11. I then booted Windows 10 and replaced abc with files xyz. I then boot back into windows 11 and its still showing files abc from before and not xyz. Why does this happen? I'm using 22H2. You can see how if I try to copy one of the old files it gives an error, of course it does because the file is gone. Why does windows 11 list old files that are not there? Now if I do something like try to eject the disk under windows 11 it will update and show the proper files (even if it fails to eject). What do I have to change to make windows 11 not suck?

Was that necessary?

Did you try refreshing File Explorer: F5 on most computers?

Ejecting the USB forced Windows 11 to re-read the USB. Not ejecting, when you booted Windows 11, it saw the same USB it had already read.

Are you familiar with chkdsk?

There may be some benefit to running it on the USB drive.

From a command line window, launched with admin privileges:

chkdsk /f (USB drive letter, plus a colon)

Your picture shows that you are in a sub folder of the USB drive called D:\Temp.
Did you check the Root of the USB D:\ to see if your files are there?

The files that were changed were in Temp. I guess I'll have to live with it.

If file explorer is showing the wrong files, then there may be an issue with File Explorer not releasing the file handles.

If that happens, close File Explorer and wait a minute, then re-open it and continue.

According to the error message though, the file or folder is corrupt. That can be caused by a timing issue, or the drive may indeed be corrupted and the old files are being re-read due to the corruption on the drive.

Backup all files/folders on that drive, re-format the drive and then copy the files/folders back to the drive.

Fingers crossed, that should take care of the issue.
