The Snipping Tool app allows you to quickly take a snapshot to copy words or images from all or part of your PC screen. Use Snipping Tool to make changes or notes, then save, and share.
Starting with Snipping Tool app version 11.2504.38.0 and higher for Windows Insiders in the Canary, Dev, Beta, and Release Preview Channels on Windows 11, Microsoft has added the ability to capture more information on your screen through the introduction of Color Picker. Color picker allows you to inspect or select a color code on your screen with the HEX, RGB or HSL values. Color picker is great for designers, developers, and anyone who might need to quickly match a color you see on your screen as part of a project.
If you do not have the new Color picker feature yet in the Snipping Tool app version above, then you can use the ViVeTool command below to enable it. You may need to check for the Snipping Tool app update in the Microsoft Store afterwards.

Here's How:
1 Perform one of the following actions below to launch screen snipping:
- Open the Snipping Tool app, and go to step 2.
- Press the Win + Shift + S keys, and go to step 3.
- Press the Print Screen key if Use the Print screen button to open screen snipping is turned on, and go to step 3.
- Click on the pen tail button if you have Screen Snipping selected for the click once pen shortcut, and go to step 3.
- Select the Snip button if not already selected.
- Select either Rectangular, Window, Full screen, or Freeform snipping mode. It doesn't matter which one so long as it's not Full screen.
- Click/tap on the New button.
- Go to step 4.
3 Perform the following steps on the Screen Snipping bar: (see screenshot below)
- Select the Snip button if not already selected.
- Select either Rectangular, Window, Full screen, or Freeform snipping mode. It doesn't matter which one so long as it's not Full screen.
- Go to step 4.
4 Perform an available action below: (see screenshots below)
- Click/tap on the Color picker button on the Screen Snipping bar.
- Click/tap on the More options button on the Screen Snipping bar, and click/tap on Color picker.
5 Select the HEX, RGB or HSL color code value you want to see. (see screenshot below)
6 Move the color picker pointer on the color on your screen you want to know the color code of.
If you need to be more precise, you can zoom by scrolling in on your pointer or using by using the Ctrl +/- keyboard shortcuts.
7 Click/tap on the color to have the selected HEX, RGB or HSL color code value (ex: "#010103") copied to the clipboard so you can paste (Ctrl+V) it where you like.
8 When finished with color picker, you can either Close it, or Go back to Screen Snipping.
