Windows 11 24H2
Hey everyone, I have a couple of questions regarding my Windows 11 24H2 setup:

I created a local account (revbear) with no password, and I'm not signing into a Microsoft account. However, when I start up my PC, I first see a screen labeled "Other User," and after clicking "Okay," I have to enter my username (revbear) again before Windows loads. How can I bypass this "Other User" screen and have Windows automatically log me into my default user profile? I only have one user listed and that is Dave. Why might this be happening

When my PC comes out of sleep mode, I’m prompted with a "Unlock the PC" screen where I need to enter my username again. How can I bypass this lock screen or at least have my username remembered allowing me to just click sign in again.

I didn’t experience this behaviour on Windows 11 23H2, where everything loaded automatically, and the lock screen did not require my username after waking from sleep. Any help would be appreciated!

With many thanks
revbear

change value of "dontdisplaylastusername" to "1"

this will disable Do Not Display Last Signed-in User Name on Sign-in Screen
if that does not resolve the issue you are describing, you can also disable Don't Display Username on Sign-in Screen
browse to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
change value of "DontDisplayUserName" to "0"

Thank you so much for the advice my provided. I have made both changes as suggested however it has sadly not resolved either one of my issues. I have attached images for a clearer idea.

'Other User' typically appears like this if you have attempted to set up auto-sign in and have got the username and/or password incorrect. Disable this and it will go away.

When my PC comes out of sleep mode, I’m prompted with a "Unlock the PC" screen where I need to enter my username again. How can I bypass this lock screen or at least have my username remembered allowing me to just click sign in again.
The default is to require a sign in on wake up. This applies even if your account has no password, if so you just have to click to sign in. This can be turned off, but the option to do so is only visible if your account has a password. You'll have to temporarily set a password in order to turn it off, then remove the password.

if the netplwiz password required box is unchecked, sometimes after win updates, it will show 2 profiles.. one is a temp that it thinks is your due to attempting to use your sign-in credentials to finish updates after reboot. once signed in, the misconfigured temp profile should not be shown again until a reboot. this is resolved by checking the netplwiz box again, rebooting, then unchecking the netplwiz box again.

but if OP is required to type in username, then it is mostly likely a gpo or secpol setting (or done via reg). being required to type a username every time you unlock or initially sign in is definitely a modification of one of those 2. but without knowing which locations have been modified, its kind of like shooting fish in a barrel while blindfolded.

Hi All.

This what I so appreciate about this forum, excellent advice and tutorials and everyone so willing to help the other to further understand. So appreciative thank you.

Dacrone your last advice Don't display last signed-in is this disabled (it should be) did the trick for me on startup, thank you.

However, I am still experiencing the same issue when the computer comes out of sleep mode. I need to re-enter my username every time. I would love to bypass that one as well. As mentioned earlier I setup the machine with only one Local Account User "revebear"with no password created from the beginning. Any assistance on bypassing this to would be appreciated. I may be missiong something though.

Many thanks
Dave

Dear all who collaborated on my post and other members of the group.

Dacrone your advice regarding the setting in the Group Policy did the trick for me thank you.

To all the others who collaborated with their advice and input providing links to the multiple tutorials provided etc has caused me to broaden my own knowledge to see that there are multiple ways in addressing it.

Most appreciative of the willing help and advice given. I know I would still be struggling with this if not you all.

Thank you again
