Just out of curiosity, since most average consumer users use a Gmail email address for their personal email, is it possible to create a MS Account using a Gmail email address instead of an Outlook.com email address?

I assume that most people don't want to use two email addresses or switch from Gmail to an Outlook email address.

So does that still mean that you would still have another email address being a Microsoft email such as a Outlook email or can the Gmail address be associated with a Microsoft account just to ONLY sign in to a Windows machine?

I really don't want to manage two email address accounts. I only want to stick with my Gmail email address and only use the Gmail to sign in to my Windows PC.

Your Gmail address is associated with your MS account. There's no other email if you don't want one. Think like an Amazon account.

For most people that is not true, and it changes over the years due to consumers gaining more knowledge on the need to have more than one Email Address/Account and other changes.

"I assume that most people don't want to use two email addresses or switch from Gmail to an Outlook email address."

Most people require more than one Email Address, they do not switch.
Hence the use of Email client applications, bringing all Email Accounts together.

I have Email adresses (more than one), that have been provided by my Internet provider, for my daily use. Already since about 2000 I use those. Those adresses are not usable for registering a Microsoft account. Tried it, does not work.

But after buying my first Android device about ten years ago, I needed a GMail adress in order to be able to download Android apps. And that adress I used too for my MS account (having a local account on my PC, but a second account for registering the PC at MS's).

It was no problem at all to register a MS account using the GMail adress. For logging in into the MS account I use the Gmail adress. And as I have used the same password (which is an exception, I use different password for everything), I don't need to think very deep what the password for the MS account was.

So no problem at all using a Gmail adress for a MS account, but an Email adress from a local provider is not accepted (for whatever reason...).

It can be done. Not sure how wise it is to trust the two most invasive corporations on earth with all your personal data though.

Yep my MS account is linked to gmail address for over 15 years with no issues. Ignore commenrs about privacy. Some people love to harp on about that with absolutely no supporting evidence .

My Gmail adress does not contain any personal data, like my name or adress. I have a GMail adress on a faked name. The only thing they can see is that my first name is Kees (which is the login name for my PC as well). But that first name is quite commonly used in the Netherlands, about 5000 men in NL nowadays have this first name (it has been more, but is not as popular anymore as it was in the years 1940-1960).

All other data in my Gmail registration are fake! And on my tablet, no personal data are registrated at all.

So I don't see how Google should get any information from that!

BTW. Many people are very careless with what they publice on Facebook, X, Linkedin etc. Often almost all private data are to be found, including telephone numbers, adresses, Emailadresses etc. Only their bank PIN is missing...

I am not using any of those social media and if I would, it would be strictly anonymous!

PS. The only reason I did not want to have a MS Outlook adress is simply that I did not want one more adress that I would not use for anything else. My Internet provider's Emailadresses are the ones I use daily, no Gmail or Outlook as extra.

Same scenario goes for the Google Play Store as well. You can register an Outlook account for using only the Play Store and for YouTube but the only difference is that you can't use the Outlook account to setup a Gmail account.

By all means, show me some supporting evidence that would convince a reasonable person that a house or an operating system is more secure by adding unnecessary windows and doors with easily picked locks that you have no key for, for some reason other than "We're going to sift through your data, and if we like what we find we're just going to let someone steal it and claim we were hacked"
