Hi,

I am trying to install it on W11 , aim to run different/check isos, flavors of Linux etc. on my laptop.

Have a few queries:

1. How much memory/ RAM should I allocate..... 8 of 16 installed?

2. Space allocation?

3. I get this message (WHP) during install, should it be checked or unchecked....on W11?

4. Do I need to install drivers for W10, Linux etc. after installing to check the new install?

5. Any other recommendations?

Hoping to year from you experts.

Thanks.

How do I extract W11 Home from it and create an iso file or a bootable USB drive?

Would you recommend installing Rufus 1st on the USB/ thumb drive?

Thanks.

How much memory/ RAM should I allocate..... 8 of 16 installed?

I would start with 4 or max 6.

2. Space allocation?

Depends on where you are storing drive. On Hyper-V, I use 80 gb by use dynamically expanding disks.

3. I get this message (WHP) during install, should it be checked or unchecked....on W11?

Vmware does not play very well with the Hyper-V hypervisor features enabled. Turn them off.

4. Do I need to install drivers for W10, Linux etc. after installing to check the new install?

VMware should sort out drivers.

5. Any other recommendations?

Not really as you are on W11 Home.

Q1 - no - you select version during installation.
Q2 - no as above
Q3 - no - you do not need to use a usb drive to boot into W11 in vmware.

What exactly do you mean by:

Depends on where you are storing drive. On Hyper-V, I use 80 gb by use dynamically expanding disks.
If your virtual drive is large - put it on a drive with plenty of space.

1). As far as memory goes, for a Linux host I typically give it between 512MB and 2GB depending upon what I am doing. For windows hosts, I usually start with 4GB. Sometimes on a server i will bump it to 16.

2). I use dynamically expanding disks. Linux distros usually take about 1-2GB of space to start, Windows hosts closer to 15GB. But they then have the ability to grow to the max size you stated.

4). The hardware passed through is usually pretty generic and supported within VMWare, VirtualBox or Hyper-V. You shouldn't have to really install any specific drivers manually. Just check device manager, it should be clean.

5)). Using VMWare Workstation is an expensive option. It's $150 to $200 to buy it. If you have a Pro version of Windows you can use Hyper-V. Or you could also use Oracle Virtual Box (which is great for Windows and Linux...and it's also free for personal use. VMWare Workstation is great if you have a VMWare environment at work or in production somehwere, but for just running some VM's at home, it's overkill and honestly too pricey in most cases.
