Voice to text--trying to make it work in on-line reply boxes

Have done extensive research on voice/text on Win 10 and 11 using my Dell laptop; but cannot get it to work. It works in Google search and on youtube but not on a forum I go to. The mic icon doesn't show up.

Sadly, it’s probably the case where it is up to the web developers if they want that functionality

The Google Voice Search API is exclusive to a small handful of Google sites on various platforms.
If you'd like to use Voice dictation on PC elsewhere, you can use Windows' built-in engine, WinKey+H.
It actually works quite accurately!

You can even set it to Auto-launch...



... whenever you give mouse focus to any dialog box...

That is sad--but I hope that's not the case with the forum I go to.

I've done this multiple times; still no mic icon shows up. Thanks for your help tho.

When you open Sound Settings is your mic set as an input device?

I use Vivaldi browser; a Chrome based derivative. I wonder--is this something that only works in Edge?

It should be system-wide and not dependent on browser

As the mic is built into my laptop it doesn't show up in settings.

My microphone is built into my laptop as well and it shows up in settings just fine.

That;s what I thought;' so I didn't mess with Edge; I dislike it immensely

Is there a way to get a screen shot of my settings page showing the input devices; so I can post it here?

Press Windows+Shift+S to open the Clipping tool and you can take a picture of the entire app/window or crop to the area you want.

When I right click on it; nothing shows up.

For a decent Voice to Text application I'd suggest to ask any of the organisations that help visually impaired people on what they use both as hardware and software, You probably won't need the "Reverse" function which converts text to voice so that should reduce the cost considerably as that's another order of magnitude in difficulty.
