Solved Want to add the Music icon back to the Home Screen

I moved my music files to a flash drive (M:), but in the process somehow lost the cool Music icon quick-accessed to the Home screen (see screenshot). My preference would be to have it there, pointed to M:. Advice, please.

In order for custom icons to show up for external drives, you have to add that icon file to the drive and then create an autorun.inf file and add the path to the icon. Then it will show up on any computer you plug in the drive to.

The drive has a hidden folder called autorun. In that folder I have a file called wdlogo.ico.

In the root of my drive I have a hidden file called autorun.inf.
In that file is the following text:

I tried to do it correctly, but there was an error I couldn't overcome. So I transfered the files over manually and somehow in the process lost the Music Quick Access icon.

Slice is correct, their method of creating an icon for a drive or folder is what I do (basically), but that isn’t related to the default User Music Folder location or association between Windows and the default User Music folder

The Music folder is the default Music folder as long as Windows knows where you moved it to. Then the default Music folder icon under this PC should take you there. If moved correctly, we can easily help you with an icon under Quick Access.

If you don’t care that Windows doesn’t know where you moved the default Music Folder to, then just create the ICON for your drive or folder you moved the actual Music to and pin it to Quick Access. (As Slice explained)

But I predict problems in the future in relation to Windows.

I am trusting you did a backup before you started playing with folder locations?

To add, if you unplug the USB drive and get it into a different port it may not be seen correctly. I name mine [up to 11 characters] in Properties so I can recognize when plugged in.

You can allocate a drive letter in Disk Management and in my experience, Windows will associate that exact drive with the drive letter you allocate.
When I do this, I select a drive letter never used, like U:

By the way, if you use OneDrive to backup your Music, then there is probably a different process in relation to the default Music folder (I don’t use it so I don’t know).

For a completely different reason I did an in-Windows reinstall of Win 11 Pro. Didn't solve the problem I was after, but I did get my MS-certified Music folder and icon back. Horray for small favors!
