Windows 11 Pro 22H2
iBuyPower PC came with Win11 Home.
- Want to buy upgrade from Microsoft but want to know if I will receive a Pro License Key.
- Will I be able to use this Key if my NVMe drive fails and is replaced? (Same if MoBo is changed.)
- Will I be able to upgrade my second drive to Insiders Dev Pro? (Actually running Insiders Dev Home version)
- Will upgrade keep my actual windows settings or will I have to do a clean install?

Searched internet for answers but all I found was how to install bootleg copies.

Yes to all - if you get a retail (it will be a Win 10) key.

My question is.. why Pro?

Not 100% certain if you get a key or a digital licence if you pay for upgrade. @NavyLCDR may be able to answer.

- Will I be able to use this Key if my NVMe drive fails and is replaced? (Same if MoBo is changed.)
If you get a key, yes. If you only get a digital licence, you can replace drive but trickier if mobo fails.

- Will I be able to upgrade my second drive to Insiders Dev Pro? (Actually running Insiders Dev Home version)
yes - no problem

- Will upgrade keep my actual windows settings or will I have to do a clean install?
yes ( no you do not need to clean install).

Can someone motivate the benefits of a Store digital licence upgrade vs a Retail upgrade? I don't see the cost benefit.

Juust to play with VM function. Other than that is something else to do in my retirement.

Well I upgraded to Pro. Feel like a Pro now until I break something on my other drive LOL.

Thanks to all that replied. Was'nt sure but you all cleared my doubts.

Marking thread as completed.

Like Hyper-V? There are better options.
I saw them online, Thanks. At the moment want to play with Hyper-V using the How To tutorial from this forum.

Last Note: My lord what a difference playing with Windows 11 compared to Windows 3.0 on a 5-1/4" floppy.
Hope to have as much fun as I did with the Radio Shack's CoCo and the Trash 4 (TRS Mod 4).

Enjoy your upgrade to Pro! I simply cannot live without Pro. I make extensive use of features like Remote Desktop, Hyper-V, Group Policy Editor, and more.

If I get a machine with Home on it, it gets upgraded to Pro practically before the CPU gets a chance to get warm :-).

Can someone motivate the benefits of a Store digital licence upgrade vs a Retail upgrade? I don't see the cost benefit.
You cannot buy a retail upgrade only the full retail licence, which is twice the price of an MS Store upgrade (if you buy an official pro licence).

You can of course go to a zillion sites that sell cheap pro licences if prepared to take a risk of being scammed.

My point... pay 1x for 1 install or pay up to 2x (haven't seen that btw) for multiple installs - flaky activation wizard excluded.

OS
Windows 10 Pro + others in VHDs
My point... pay 1x for 1 install or pay up to 2x (haven't seen that btw) for multiple installs - flaky activation wizard excluded.
2x for full installation allowing multiple installation but only one at a time of course.
